Lightbulb How to check your Bank account with only 1 button.

Nifty little way to be lazy and check your bank account balance by pressing only one key , takes a few minutes to set it up however.

First off, the only reason I do this is because I have my device on "Defcon 3 Lockdown Mode"

(password enabled, content compression enabled, content encryption enabled - strongest, etc...)
options > security options > general settings > Enable just about everything on that page.

Next we need to set up the smart dialing to do this.
Press green call key to go to call list, then menu key > scroll to options > smart dialing
Go to "To access extensions in all other corporations, call the number, then WAIT for:"
****Change that to 3 seconds if it's not already set.

Next we configure the phone number to the bank. My Bank has an automated IVR that gives you prompts and you push buttons to get different info about your account.

(for my bank it asks for card number or social sec number followed by #, then pin number followed by #, then the number Four followed by # for acct balance, then # again for available balance.)
*****Your bank may have different prompts, so adjust accordingly.

Go to your address book, find your bank's phone number (the one for prompts) 18771234567

Press menu key > scroll to edit
    > scroll to the number in the contact listing
    > with the cursor in the spot directly after the phone number,
press the menu key and scroll to "add pause"
    >then put in card number followed by # (or social or acct number)
    >then menu key again > scroll to "add pause" the four digit pin followed by #
    >then menu key > scroll to "add pause" , then entered the number 4 followed by #
    > then menu key > "add pause," then #

    If done successfully
the phone number (at least for my bank to get to available balance) will look like

    18771234567[P]123xx6789#[P]xxxx#[P]4#[P]#

Now this is why you want your device password enabled, because your acct info is now in the contact
(soc # or card # and PIN # for the acct)

With my device being password protected I am confident that if my device was lost or stolen, another person won't have access to that info, since the device will wipe after the wrong password is entered.

Keep in mind also that if you use outlook and synch your contacts, that info will synch over, so you may want to not allow that happen.

    ---------------

    update
I am changing this to "how to check your bank account with one button."
Simply assign this phone number to Speed Dial Key. For example, I used the number "3"

In address book, click into to the listing, then press your menu key and select Add to Speed Dial. Then select which "number you want to assign it to" (1-9!?.,)

Now when its time to check your bank acct, just push the number you assigned to the Speed Dial.

The Blackberry then automatically navigates throught the prompts.
Perfect for driving while using the speakerphone option (or bluetooth)

    cheers - Josh

If you have chase you can also set up the text message system with you cell phone. That way you don't have all that information programed into your phone for someone to look at.

you can encrypt your phonebook and lock the phone, then nobody will have easy access to that info

i have been using this for calling cards for quite some time. the pause feature is great!!! the key command for entering a pause is the comma or (n) key.

I tried this on my new Verizon 8130 and ran into an issue where the auto dialing kicked in before the call even connected which through off the whole process. I fixed this with a slight work around, Delete the first "PAUSE" [P] and replace with a "WAIT" [W] which prompts you to select when you want to start the auto dialing of your account number, etc...

Still can check my account with a few buttons

Green key, scroll to bank #, Green key, scroll to enable auto account dialing.

Not sure why it didn't work the same with Verizon instead of TMO.

Great info. I thought of doing that before but was concerned about security. Great idea to password protect. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Defense Condition 3 is pretty lackadaisical in contrast to DEFCOM 1 jusy sayin... You are in DEFCON 1 as far as security goes.
