Official Google Phone Coming in January 2010

Hot off the Motorola Droid placing first in the Gadget Of The Year, Google has commented on it's anticipated Google Phone.
Last night, we started seeing some Tweets from Google employees about a new Android-powered Google phone that was apparently handed out at an “all hands” meeting. Now Google is confirming that it is indeed “dogfood” testing a new Android device with employees around the world.

CNET TV Associate Producer Jason Howell, who had a very brief hands-on with the gadget Friday night and first relayed the news on Twitter, confirms that the "mobile lab" device is an HTC phone running the Android 2.1 operating system.

The Google Phone has been reported to include these features:

    - Sold as an unlocked GSM phone, so in the U.S. T-Mobile and possibly AT&T
    - Android 2.1
    - Uses Snapdragon chip
    - High resolution OLED screen
    - Thinner than iPhone
    - Two mics, one on the back to reduce background noise
    - large camera
    - Touchscreen keyboard
    - Voice to text for dictation

The Google Phone is said to be due for release in January 2010.

it would be like nokia where you pay full price because they are factory unlocked.

I want one, This could be the android phone that knocks the iphone down a peg. [LoL Just a Little ]

I hope that they release an ad supported version like all the rumors I heard a year or two ago. I would put up with ads just to have a phone like that at a price that I can afford. If it is factory unlocked, it would be upwards of several hundred dollars. An ad supported version would be much much less.

The Nexus One, is just what the smartphone industry and RIM need to wake them up.

Now that I've enjoyed such a good experience with the Droid, I will be in the que for a Nexus One immediately.

Nexus One ... The Hottest Smartphone Of Q1, 2010?

Nexus One... the long rumored Google Phone now has a name, and the buzz seems to be building faster than any previous smartphone to date.

Will this be the hottest smartphone during the first quarter of 2010?

One thing is for certain, this will stir up lots of industry watchers, and users alike.

    Check in with your thoughts...

Not sure it would make me leave my BB, but it would definitely be a good contender. The deal breaker for me is a lack of a QWERTY keyboard. I have used touchscreens before and I cannot stand them. Just couldn't get used to that. However this is looking like a great device and maybe the one that really solidifies the Android platform in the market.
