Nexus One Receives Multi Touch Update

Google says that the new update will bring “Pinch-to-zoom functionality” to the Nexus One, which will allow users to pinch-to-zoom in the Android browser, Gallery, and Maps applications.

In order to access the update, you will receive a message on your phone's notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set. This update will be rolled out gradually to phones - and most users might not receive the notification until the end of the week. We hope you enjoy these new features and look forward to your feedback.

Good, I hope they do the same for the moto droid when its 2.1 update comes out, although I already have the milestone browser on mine. It would be nice to have those functions natively instead of using cooked up roms.

The capability was already there, but for some reason they didnt put it on phones released in the us. so the motorola DROID didn't have it but the motorola milestone does, same phone design, os, and manufacturer but they released it with different capabilities in the uk vs us. So all the hacker did was pull it out of the milestone os and make it available for droid users to download

The truth we may never know but some seem to think it has to do with an agreement of some kind between Apple and Google or possibly an Apple Patent

The pinch to zoom is definitely "smoother" on the iPhone, but this is truly a great update for droid users.

Its the most stable my Droid has been since I bought it! Still testing everything but so far the speed is unbelievable. The pinch and zoom is pretty smooth. It really makes a difference in the maps which surprised me because I always thought it was an overrated feature but I was wrong. Very wrong!
