Google To Make Its Own Android SmartPhone & Bypass Carriers

Google is working with an unnamed smartphone manufacturer to have a Google-branded phone available this year through retailers and NOT through carriers, according to Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar.

The move would fulfill Google's pledge to bring a new generation of open-standard mobile Internet devices to consumers. By bypassing the carriers, who keep tight controls over the features and applications that are allowed on phones, Google will presumably offer a device that lets users determine the functions.

Interesting......... Wonder how this will work? Will it be both CDMA and GSM and can we just walk into any Carrier of our choosing and purchase a cell phone package? Maybe we won't have to do any of that and there is something else we will be presented with?

I like things like this, should be nice. "Be Free" could be their new Ad campaign slogan

And if the phone breaks you have to mail it in and wait? That's the only downside I see.

Unless Google launches stores similar to Apple where to take in the device. Trust me those and other issues are probably already being looked at by Google. It could be a warranty where purchased and they could train cert gphone techs. So many ways to approach.

More great news for Android. Everyone should be pulling for this. Except the carriers of course. Game changing!

The only issue I see (but hope they can solve) is the CDMA deal...

I guess ill add a true google phone to my batman belt of gadgets. One Iphone, one BB 8330, one Zune Hd (when at the gym) and soon one "True Google" device. Who knows if its all in one ill have some gadgets for sale, starting with my unlocked Iphone, easier to part with then my BB 8330 such a work horse.

Just thinking out loud..if Google makes a phone that is carrier independent, they either become a carrier or the phone is WiFi only. Perhaps I'm missing something but Google is certainly a force to be reconed with. Compettition is always a good thing.
