Viper intros Remote Car Start via iPhone

Oh, boy. It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? Automobile security system company Viper has just introduced its SmartStart line consisting of an in-car hardware module with a cellular connection that allows you to lock, unlock, and remotely start your car from just about anywhere in the world.

You can also show off by popping the trunk and hitting the panic button, too. The module can be added to existing compatible Viper systems for $300 or there’s an all-in-one system for $500 – both are currently available at Best Buy.

I may end up trying this darn thing out. I already have an auto Start on my Vehicle and use it all Winter long. So when I saw this new App I was pleased to say the least. BB is not far from me (1 mile) so the next time I'm in the area I'm going to stop in and see what it's all about.

It could be Kewl. On the other hand? I have a fear of commitments and this just ties me even more to my iPhone.

If you password protect your phone, this would be more secure than a set of keys.

Azstar: Apparently you believe the "security" on you iphone will protect you. I encourage you to do a little research on the 45 seconds it takes to bust.

Darn, I was just ready to go out and buy this for my Hyundai Elantra lol......I don't have an iPhone and it's just like anything else, if a thief wants it bad enough, they can get it and get easily, even without the phone. The technology is still cool

So you get the app, and have the unit installed, do you add your iphone as a special incentive when you sell the car? Technology is cool, but may be illegal in some countries.

If I lock my keys in the car I call onstar and they unlock it.

This is wrong in so many ways, let's keep to an extra remote for the car that can start it, recognize if someone is in it (Volvo) and can be sold with car

I saw this on youtube, except it wasn't $500, there's a guy on there that shows you how to do this. I'll look for it and post the link. I'm pretty sure its a lot cheaper.
