I get as far as editing the blackberry.alx file with my vendor codes, but when I try to save it back, it says that file path doesn't exist.
Am I supposed to overwrite the original file, right?
If not, where do I save it?
If so, any suggestions on how I can get the file to save?
Also, where is the vendor.xml file located?
Ive looked everywhere.
Im sure these questions have been answered,
but this thread is so long.
Thanks for (possibly) answering these again.

Have you updated DM or re-installed the Device Software since you deleted the vendor.xml. Check again. I assume you only have one Device Software Package folder or that you edited the blackberry.alx file in the correct one.

I assume you are using Vista. You may have to save the file as blackberry.txt then rename it after exiting the editor.

Logan, Welcome to PinStack,
Well I guess the only thing to say is in Step 5, The highlighed and underlined phrase appears to describes your situation.
5. If you don’t have a listing for your current device, or the listing in figure 2 is a lower version (B and C) than the one(s) from Figure 1., Download the appropriate file from the RIM Downloads pages, BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites and install it by executing the downloaded file.
Follow up from there.

Sounds like you interupted the process before it was totally complete. Try the steps in this thread. How To: Reinstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected
