cnet news: The RIM BlackBerry Tour 9630 has received positive reviews from around the tech world, though there's been one universal complaint: the lack of Wi-Fi. However, Sprint is hoping to right this wrong by releasing a Wi-Fi-enabled BlackBerry Tour next year and said it will require all of its future smartphones to have Wi-Fi.

I don't get why the CDMA carriers haven't had the option on Blackberry all along. When I had my Alltel HTC 6800 it had wifi over a year ago.

Now does this mean I should wait another year for a new phone, is it worth it? I have never had it so I would like to know from people who have is it a feature they feel they couldn't live without?

I agree cowboy, when I had my mogul from sprint it had wifi was great, to run on rev a and wifi when rev a wasn't there. They should of added it a while back. Too late for me I left cdma already and by the looks of it won't be turning back anytime soon.

For me WiFi on a cell is like comparing dial up internet vs broadband. I am on my 3rd phone with WiFi and I can say for sure that I would not own a phone that does not have WiFi. WiFi brings the phone alive.

Any phone with WiFi will be a joy to use.

I wonder...is WiFi in the phone and just needs an OS switch like GPS was for Verizon or is the WiFi Radio actually missing?

No, if the phone doesn't say it has Wi-Fi, then the radio doesn't exist in the phone.

Of the two other BB's I've owned, they both have had Wi-Fi and it's a feature I love. I won't buy one without it. I live in a semi-rural area and reception even at my home is sometimes weak. Being able to latch onto a Wi-Fi signal and keep calling is great. My phone works beautifully at the doctor's office where my signal is weak because they have an open network for guests.

So if I live in an area with a good signal and 3g is it still wise to wait another year for a wifi enabled device?

I'd say that is a question only you can decide.
if you can I'd say wait... just so you can compare the two models and see what you'll like better.
the first version of the 9630 may have an assortment of bugs/glitches that may be refined in the next version.
you never know what may happen
    just my two cents

^^That's a good point, even tho It may be off topic a little bit. First Generation of any device is a gamble. Improvements that follow tend to be solid and make users happy.

True, srl, but its not like the Tour is really anything groundbreaking, from what I've read. More or less the Storm/Bold OS with better processor and memory than the 8900, better camera than the Bold, etc. Unless I missed something...

So hopefully there aren't too many bugs to work out.
