I have read the same info about wifi and Verizon. It would be really cool if this is true.

im just waiting for congress to pass the bill that will not allow "exclusivness" to any particular phone which will mean you will not have to be on verizon to get a storm or att to get iphone. Any carrier will be able to carry any phone (as long as that phone is made for that carrier of course).

I would be for this too but it probably would eliminate some kind of "behind the scenes" negotiations/competition among the carriers and RIM - free enterprise or some goofy thing like that.

yeah would kill the "big brother" type companies from controlling the entire cell phone market ya know. That is an actual bill being accessed at the moment.

^^ I hope that bill never passes. These carriers make a lot of money with exclusive deals, don't you think that they will be forced to raise prices for plans to compensate? Government telling companys how to operate is socialism and not the way it should be.
There's really not much or anything exciting about this phone. RIM is gonna oversaturate their market which is just gonna cause confusion.

Other companies should have the oppertunity to carry those phones also.

Why? This is pure american capitilism.
Would you like someone telling you where you should spend your money? No of course not. Congress needs to stay out of the one thriving market and focus on the crashing ones.
That's a whole new debate though

They might as well pass it. If someone wants the device bad enough all they do is go out and unlock it.
IMO, If a device is designed to do certain things, when you purchase it and become the OWNER you should have every right to use it where ever and however you chose. I don't ever remember Maw Bell or any of those carriers demanding I use their devices to have their service. One company should never have a Monopoly on ANYTHING!!

I really don't want to start a political fight here but just a reminder, Capdot, the government decided to NOT tell the banks and lending institutions how to operate - just let them "regulate" themselves and operate however they wanted to, etc - and look where free enterprise got us in the financial system.
I agree that it shouldn't be that way (government telling companies how to run) but without a few rules, unchecked "private enterprise" often leads to consumer disaster IMO.

i agree to an extent but when you said "Would you like someone telling you where you should spend your money? " you said no but its exactly what vzw and att are doing by being the ONLY carrier in US to carry it...get what im sayn? Its not socialism its Fair Act to sell whatever to whomever on whatever network wants the phone.

Att and apple struck up a deal, Apple makes it and Att is the carrier. Both company's make money. Tmobile and Verizon see this great thing happening so it gives them incentive for Google to make android RIM to make Storm. Now we have something great it's called competition. Throw in sprint and palm while your at it.
Exclusives are great! they bring out the best in all company's
with no exclusives, bland, boring and a stagnant market.
Tell me why the cell phone market is one of the only markets that is booming out of control? It's cause there is competition.
-
I think the cell phone markets are booming out of control because of all the new features that are being added to phones, not because there is competition. There's competition in the p-c market and it's not booming - the same for cameras and many other technologies.
Competition is created by demand IMO and demand is created by new functionality and features, especially where communication is concerned.

Consumer disaster is someone going to buy something that they cant truly afford. This is personal responsibility not something the government should do.

Then whats the need for congress to get involved?
Apple owns the rights to iphone so why should anyone tell them what to do with it, government or whoever.

No one tells me where I should spend my money. I drove to Att and purchased my bold cause thats what I wanted, now If I did not have att as my carrier I would have to break my contract with whoever I was with or just go buy the phone and unlock it.
You say its not "fair" so when did it start having to be fair? come on, man we can't act like spoiled brats and want everything available to us cause we want it.
The way I see it is that everything has Exclusives. Direct tv has exclusives to NFL, if you want to watch your team play every sunday then you go get Direct tv, If you want baseball you go somewhere else. Thats the way it works. This is not "monopoly"
