In 3 days of using OS 5, my 8900 reset by itself only once. I was running several apps (Call Back Reminder, Cerberus CallFIlter and MiniMoni) in the background. These apps could have caused the reboot. Remember that all the apps we are using were written for OS 4.6. None specifically for OS 5.0.

If we have not installed ANY 3rd party apps and the our device with OS 5 still resets, then the OS is the problem.

Well, I hate to say this but after reading all of your comments, it seems like 5.0 is a bust and it's not worth losing my favorite applications (Facebook, Viigo) for it's few small enhancements.

I don't know that I'd call it a bust, given that this is as beta as I've seen in os builds. The few issues I've had make it worth keeping for a bit longer for me.

if you depend on those two applications, then I'd agree its not for you.

(Edit) be aware that the new version of Pandora may not work on 8900 with 5.0. I dl and tried got immediate error when selected app. If you try this new version be sure to have a backup of the old.

Works, sorta. Noticed that when the phone is locked the custom led colors work. It comes in and out at other times. Haven't tried the vibrate while ring.

Noticed while phone was plugged in on the way home last night I got the custom color as well.

The only app I am disappointed with not working is Facebook. I like posting pictures with it. Otherwise, it has run pretty well. I am getting better battery life with it. I really like the phone ring volume settings better. Yatca, Rove Mobile Admin, Qsms, BofA for BB and the Google apps all seem to be working fine.

Facebook app let me update it to 1.3 but still no icon. Strange. Anyone else have the Playlists, Files, net_rim_tmo_five_unlcontacts... and net_rim_tmo_enabler programs stuck in their downloads folder?

Much as I love betas, and have generally tried each incremental one to come along on my 8100, then 8300 and now my 8900 (I'm at .199 now), this sounds like it's definitely a bigger leap re: application support and compatibility than prior betas have been, and it's more of a compromise than I'm willing to make right now...

I'm wondering if even later versions of this won't "fix" the compatibility issues, as it sounds like RIM may have modified, or perhaps tightened, their security model with 5.x -- might have to be the applications that will change in order to accomodate newer OS's from RIM. Anyone have any intel on that question?

In the meantime, I'll lurk and watch until the compatiblity seems more solid... I appreciate the rest of you diving in and sharing your experiences!

I agree. If I had known how much had changed I am not sure I would have tried it at this early in the testing process. I have always been one to throw a beta on to try it too but this version may not be ready enough yet. I hope that a newer one comes out soon. It's not horrible, but it has some definite issues!

I've got my 8220 with me right now, but I found this on a Storm thread.

Your favorite app not working with the Storm? Before you give
up all hope, check to see if it's running in compatibility mode.
Options > advanced options > applications > highlight the app >
press menu key and enable/disable compatibilty mode.
I cannot guarantee a success for you, but it may help.

Anyone want to check out if the 8900 has this option?
