Period
The 2010 Super Apps Developer Challenge (the "Challenge") is designed for BlackBerry® developers that have created their own BlackBerry applications. The Challenge will take place from 12:00 A.M. (Eastern Standard Time) April 28, 2010 to 11:59 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time) September 6, 2010 (the "Challenge Period").

Eligibility
The Challenge is open to developers working on a BlackBerry application in one of the following seven categories:

  1. Productivity (Applications that help the user be productive and save time) - Business, Productivity and Finance
  2. Fun & Games (Applications that help the user have fun) - Games, Entertainment and Utilities
  3. Knowledge (Applications that help the user be empowered in life) - Education, Reference & eBooks, and Health & Wellness
  4. Sharing (Applications that help the user share and socialize) - Instant Messaging and Social Networking
  5. Navigate & Explore (Applications that help the user find what he or she is looking for) - Maps & Navigation, Travel and Shopping
  6. Multi-Media (Applications that help the user enjoy ) - Music & Audio and Photo & Video
  7. In the Know (Applications that keep the user up-to-date on the latest information) - News, Sports & Recreation and Weather

In order to be eligible, developers must be individuals resident, or entities located, within one of the four regions listed below. For the purposes of the Challenge, submissions will be categorized and judged according to the following geographic regions (each a "Region"):
  1. Asia Pacific, excluding North Korea ("APAC")
  2. Latin America, including Mexico ("LATAM")
  3. Europe - Middle East - Africa ("EMEA")
  4. North America - Canada (excluding Quebec) and United States, excluding Mexico - ("NA")

How to Enter
There are two ways to enter the Challenge ("Registration"):

  1. To apply, go to http://bpf.wufoo.com/forms/2010-blac...per-challenge/ to and complete the form.
  2. During the Submission Period, upon acceptance to App World (subject to BlackBerry App World terms and conditions), as determined by RIM in its sole discretion, you will receive an invitation to apply to the Challenge. The invitation to apply to the Challenge will include a link to the on-line registration form. You will require a BlackBerry App World Application ID# for each Application submitted to the Challenge.

Note: If your Application is not free to the user you must present BBPF with a URL (on a private web server - include a username and password to login, if necessary) to a directory of .jad files for each device type clearly indicated. Alternately, for Applications that require registration (and payment); entrants should prepare and provide BBPF with a list of "pre-registered" username/password logins so that the Application can be easily tested by our judges. Dates

  • Official registration opens: April 28, 2010
  • Submission Deadline: 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time on September 6, 2010
  • Submissions will be judged by 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time on September 27, 2010
  • Regional Selections will be notified by email no later than 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time on September 27, 2010
  • Regional Category Winners will be notified no later than 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time on November 1, 2010
  • Regional Semi-Finalists will be judged by 11:59 A.M. Eastern Time on November 18, 2010
  • Regional Winners will be notified by email no later than 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time on November 18, 2010
  • 4 Regional Winners and Global Honorable mentions Announced: November 18, 2010

Criteria
Submissions will be judged against the Super App features (Selection Criterion) described at: http://www.blackberry.com/developers/superapps.

Process
All Submissions will be judged by 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time on September 27, 2010.
Initial submissions will be validated by RIM to determine eligibility to BlackBerry App World. RIM judges will select up to 400 Submissions (the "Regional Selections") as judged against the Selection Criterion and utilizing an automated testing tool. These Submissions may be from any of the four (4) Regions and any of the seven (7) Categories. The judges are under no obligation to make a Regional Selection from any Region or Category.
The Regional Selections will move on to the next round of judging and will be notified by email no later than 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time on September 27, 2010.

Regional Semi-Finalist Judging
Regional Semi-Finalists will be judged by 11:59 A.M. Eastern Time on November 18, 2010, by a group of judges designated by RIM and BBPF. The Regional Semi Finalist Applications will be judged against the Selection Criterion through loading and testing of the Application on a BlackBerry device. The judges will select up to twelve (12) Regional Semi-Finalists (up to three (3) from each Region) in any Category (the "Regional Finalists"). The judges are under no obligation to make a Regional Semi-Finalist Selection from any Region or Category.
Regional Finalists will move on to the final round of judging and will be notified by email no later than 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time on November 18, 2010.

Regional Finalist Judging
Final judging will be by a panel of judges designated by RIM and BBPF.
Up to four (4) winners (up to one (1) from each Region) (the "Regional Winners") will be selected.

Announcement of the Regional Winners
The Regional Winners will be notified by email no later than 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time on November 18, 2010, and their names will be posted on the Challenge website no later than 11:59 P.M. Eastern time on November 30, 2010.
BBPF reserves the right to announce the winners of any of the categories by press release or at an event so long as the press release is issued or the event is held after the time of notification for the applicable category as described above.

Prizes
All prizes are valued in US Dollars. The prizes are made up of in-kind awards and merchandise. There is NO CASH AWARD. For applicants that advance through more than one round of the contest, only the top prize in the each of the prize categories in which an applicant advances as a winner will be awarded. (E.g., If an applicant advances as a Regional Finalist, they will only be awarded one (1) Alliance Membership with a top prize of Select membership. Winner will not receive additional Alliance Memberships in lower membership categories.)
Prizes consisting of physical goods will be couriered to the winners within 21 days of November 18, 2010.
Prizes consisting of non-physical goods and which require the winner to initiate a meeting, or apply electronically must be claimed within 60 days of November 18, 2010. Instructions on how to initiate the meeting or apply will be provided in the winner notification email sent to each respective winner.

Regional Selection Prize Packages
Up to 400 Regional Selection Prize Packages will be awarded (up to 100 from each Region). Each Regional Selection will be awarded one (1) Regional Selection Prize Package (approx. retail value of each Value Package is estimated at $580 per winner) which includes:

  1. One (1) BlackBerry Device
  2. DeviceAnywhere Proof Centre

The odds of becoming a Regional Selection and winning a corresponding prize are solely dependant on the total number of eligible Submissions received and their ability to best satisfy the applicable judging criteria.

Regional Semi-Finalist Prize Packages
Up to twenty-eight (28) Regional Semi-Finalist Prize Packages will be awarded (up to seven (7) from each Region). Each Regional Semi-Finalist will be awarded one (1) Regional Semi-Finalist Prize Package (approx. retail value of each Value Package is $16,020) which includes:
