BlackBerrys stolen from Augusta T-Mobile store

nbcaugusta.com: AUGUSTA, Ga. - Richmond County investigators say a man broke into the T-Mobile store on 200 block of Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway and stole 100 BlackBerrys from the store's stock room.

That's about $40,000 worth of merchandise. Witnesses say they saw a man crawling out of the store with a large white bag.

The manager said he has to do inventory to see if any other items have been stolen.

These will show up somewhere. They can publish a list to the appropriate carriers of these devices so that (maybe) the crook(s) can be tracked when people attempt to activate, can't they?

If the store has the IMEI numbers of all the devices, which I'm sure they do, can't they disable all of them?~via 9000~

Devices will be unuseable as TMO blocks the PIN and IMEI on the devices. $40,000 worth of useless devices lol. Still not a good thing for that store though.

Indeed, not a good thing. The robber might as well stole the dummy phones, because that's what he has now, a bag of bricks!!!

He can sell them as parts. But it will take him a while because they just came out a few months now.

You would be surprised, he will get his money, by selling them to people who dont know they cant use them..

Someone told me that alot of times, RIM nor the carriers really care about stolen phones, because of insurance I guess they get reimbursed for it, and secondly the creep who stole it is eventually going to have to sign up for service through a carrier, or maybe even sign up for a BB data plan, so its a win win for them... argggg
