BlackBerry Keeps Growing
The list of BlackBerry competitors keeps getting longer, from the Apple iPhone 3GS to the Palm Pre and Pixi, HTC Hero and Motorola Cliq. Yet the Street expects solid results from BlackBerry maker Research In Motion when it reports earnings Thursday.
Analysts say steady consumer interest in smart phones and a string of device launches likely boosted RIM's fiscal second quarter, which ended Aug. 31. On average, they anticipate earnings of $1 per share, up 16% from the same period last year. Revenues are estimated to rise 40% to $3.62 billion.
Despite new device announcements from Motorola, Palm and HTC, nine analysts recently raised their earnings-per-share estimates for RIM's current fiscal year (2010). Eleven raised their estimates for the following fiscal year (2011).
