The Canada-based Research In Motion company announced today that it has ruled out faulty batteries as a possible cause of keyboards heating up during recharging of BlackBerry Bolds sold in Japan last week. More than 30 users have reported their keyboards were heating up during recharging, causing concern with all of the recent reports of battery fires and recalls.

whoa! that's crazy. one thing i have noticed in the 3 days that i have had the bold is that the battery will lose charge rather quickly running a couple of 3rd party apps, and VERY slow to re-charge hopefully the battery life will get better with time

My 9530 gets hot occasionally whilst charging. I would be curious to know how hot these Bold's are really getting. Too bad we don't have a PinStack user with a DoCoMo Bold that we could get the surface tempature from.

First off, cherrichiodo, I've got atleast a dozen 3rd party apps that constantly run in the background, and another 2 dozen or so installed... Always running gps, and a few others... I get abt 15 hrs to 10% from a full charge... Currently running .241 and haven't fully tested it out yet... What kind of battery life are you getting?

Second, I hope this issue is restricted to a batch of BOLD's that went to japan...

Mine is one of the first that came out, and it was an Etisalat (UAE) branded device and made in Hungary...

I javent really noticed any heat up that I'd consider even remotely alarming, although it does warm up a bit...

My 8120 does get a little warm when charging but as soon as I unplug it from my PC, it's fine.

Cherri, I had a similar incident with my 8120 about a month ago. I was trying to get an RSS feed from Viigo and my 8120 froze in a reset loop. It DRAINED my battery from full to DEAD in a matter of less than 5 minutes with the hourglass constantly spinning. I had to reboot my BB by removing the battery and reinserting it. It's been fine since.

I just got my Bold today and I am noticing that the keyboard is getting hot. Matter of fact it is the whole face of the phone. My curve never did this.

My bold gets a little warm, I wouldn't call it hot though... If its "hot" then you may want to notify your carrier for an exchange...

I took it off the charger and an hour later it is still hot. Now I have the nice WHITE screen.

My curve was dying and now this Bold is defective. UGH!

So after my freak out session last night, I checked my precious bold and it seems to be working just great. Had some issues still and RIM helped me out.

RIM said that sometimes the battery does that on initial charge but once it drains down and then recharges, it seems to be fine. That's a scary thing to happen and no one should have to deal with that on an initial purchase.

That's weird... Why would a battery do that on an initial run... Keep an eye on your device and hopefully it won't do anything else weird like that... If it does, get it switched man...

As soon as I put it on my car charger it started to heat up again. I had a full charged battery, got one phone call that was going on 45 minutes and the phone died. I couldn't get it to turn on. After a few minutes back on the car charger, battery was at 10%.

I'm on Bold #2 now with a new PIN. This one is fluctuating my network signal between SOS, 3G, EDGE and GSM. I'm having a great time
