It's just so s.......l.......o.......w........ compared with EVDO. My next device will either me a UMPC or a BB with HSDPA. I don't understand wy the 8800 will be edge..... HP and Palm will have HSDPA devices this summer.
The word is since RIM makes Blackberry's for different carriers and not all have deployed 3g yet *cough* T-Mobile *cough* that it doesn't make sense to make different phones, 3g and non 3g of the same model.

The 9000 is suppose to be 3g.. or so I have read here.

    ok....

Question... If the 3g stuff is backwards compatiable which it is. Why not simply make the phones 3G? I realize t-mob doesn't have it. But that wouldn't really matter. If they weren't running 3G, it would just switch back to EDGE, like any other phone.

Or is there a problem with 3G data and the push stuff? I'm still saying that it's goofy to give us a great multimedia tool, then give us slow internet. What's even more odd, is the reason. Because T-mob doesn't have it? just doesn't make any sense when it's backwards compatible.

Re: Blackberry 8800 in detail (Specs)

i hear that the vodafone version of the 8800 will have a WIDER keyboard layout than the versions that will be released in the US is this true? and if so does anyone have any pictures of this 8800v ? I am very interested being 6'3 i have pretty big hands and i even prefer the keyboard of the 7290 way better than the 8700.So with all this emphasis on styling and making all the phones thinner and smaller are they gonna just throw functionality out the window and forget that these fones are made to touch type on and not just to look at on a pretty shefl?

I spoke with a sale rep in novi michigan at sprint/nextel just a few seconds ago. I was told by Karen that thy were told.. It would be something like March/April,May at the latest; when they would receive the 8800. Karen did say that this release date could change. And for me to e-mail her in a month for and update. Anyone from the Novi area?

Question Re: Blackberry 8800 in detail (Specs)

No thumbwheel Some have said the trackball is easier but how? I use the thumbwheel very efficiently with one hand. Any votes for the trackball? I would really miss the thumbwheel!Although this device looks just wonderful!! It is easy to stay in love with Blackberry

I happen to know that cingular will be getting this soon, but they have asked RIM to nerf them badly. Cingular doesn't want anyone to use wi-fi cause it's relatively free. There were a couple of other things but alot of the best features will never make it to the american market.

    RAGE!

May I ask where you go this information? All the information I've read suggests WiFi on BlackBerrys will be used for UMA access, not free data access to bypass RIM and the carriers. I'm basing this on information from enthusiasts (Boy Genius, especially) that a close to RIM have said about the models in testing and development. WiFi has only been mentioned for services like UMA. I can't find any evidence to the contrary.

Let me through this out there - What mobile phones on that are currently on the market now, allow for free, unmetered data access on wireless ethernet networks for TCPIP apps? I'm curious why people are using for a baseline comparison.

Looks great! Too bad, I just switched to 8703e. and it would take million years to my network to provide it.
