Confusion about Desktop Redirector

O.K., I admit that I never quite understood the difference between the two options. However, I have been using BB for many years, and have not used the redirector. I just cranked up an 8900 yesterday and installed the Desktop Software from the disk. I selected the option that didn't include the redirector. Email worked fine. Got a message to update software (4.7.0.37) which I did. Redirector reappeared. My email seems to be working fine, but the redirector shows no data. I'm happy if it works, but am nervous that something isn't working right.

Redirector is used to forward e-mail messages from Outlook or an Exchange server to your BB. To my knowledge however, it only works if you're on a BES. For most of us, it's a useless feature.
