For all those who want to unlock the Verizon Storm 9530 heres a link and step by step instructions. The thread originates at Hofo, but Engadget and SlashGear have ran a story on it. So all of you skeptics have nothing to be skeptical about anymore, as this is proof the 9530 can be unlocked to work on NA GSM carriers. Have fun. ![]() http://www.slashgear.com/verizon-bla...e-usa-2624347/ |

I didn't see step by step instructions...and the fact that the author of the article reccommends that we not do it? Well, that's enough for me!

Reason why I say Verizon branded is, you can't buy a Verizon phone on eBay, then call Verizon not being a customer and request a code. They have the 60-day requirement because you have 30 days to back out of a initial contract with them. Keeps you from signing up, unlocking the phone, then canceling service; you can keep the phone, but they'll charge you retail for it - You still have an unlocked phone after it's all said and done. |

I have some questions about unlocking the Storm. Can you still upgrade the OS. I assume that you can still do it via DM or does it do it OTA. Also if I unlock a Storm for TMO and decide to switch to Verizon at a later date, are there going to be any issue other than reloading VZ service books? ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

| Unlocked on T-Mobile for 9 Days Going
I bought the Storm 9 days ago on opening day at the Verizon store on a month to month contract, called customer service when I got home and received the unlock code. I am running great on T-Mobile with full 2G EDGE (unfortunately as Verizon was Fast!) after switching the network settings to manual GSM/UTMS 2g. Voicemail, Web and BES functionality works great!

Just called Verizon and got a unlock code without any issues. They walked me thru the process, took about 2 mnutes. Tested with friend's T-mobile blackberry SIM, works fine with EDGE data. I've been Verizon customer since last 11/22/2008.

Just switched from TMobile to Verizon last Tuesday. Called Verizon yesterday and spoke with Global support. Explained I was going to Argentina where their rates are 4.99 a minute and I came from T-Mobile where they were only 1.35. Explained I wanted to buy a sim card for use in those expensive GSM countries. I was unlocked within 10 minutes using the mepd and mep2 instructions and code they gave me right over the phone. I am now unlocked on the storm and tested with co-workers T-mobile sim using GSM network option under Mobile Network in options. Only thing I lost was the web browser and when i switched back to 1XEV on CDMA it came right back after the phone re-registered.

by the way...you dont have to live in the UK. CDMA will work in over 40 countries.. and their new global GSM sim will work in 200 other countries and thats while still on the Verizon network. Now, If you unlock the BB (Not talking about activating the Verizon SIM for global use) using the unlock codes many of us have done on several blackberrys you can use ANY GSM carrier's SIM in your Storm.
