As boom boom said, try sending your service books (Options/Advanced/Host Routing Table/Click/Register Now), then wait about an hour or so and do a battery pull.

! Registration message queued. It will be sent once data coverage is available.

You might need to get a data plan to go along with your BB. It makes the most sense to do it, and reports are that you will have problems if you don't have a data plan with BB service.

Re: will not connect with Cingular network

If he's not getting a singal trying to send the service books wont work. If you have another cingular phone with a different chip, take that chip you know is functional, and put it into the blackberry. If you get a singal, then you know everything on the phone is ok, and it's something else.

Now, if you put that other sim card in, and it doesn't work either, then I would have assume that the phones attenna is dead... AKA defective receiver.

If you don't have another phone to do this with, just goto a cingular store they will have a chip to put in to check that.

I am not using any of the data services, I do not even text message, I just wanted to be able to read ebooks.
Would I still need the data plan anyway?

Re: will not connect with Cingular network

I have tried my SIM card in my old phone, it still works fine.

The problem seems to be centered around the BB not seeing any network to connect to.

To me it does seem to be the TX/RX of the BB as witnessed by no humming induced into my desktop like it used to.

since wifey bought this on Ebay, would a Cingular store even help me , or am I going to have to send this to a repair center?

Re: will not connect with Cingular network

I think what Dr. Woo was suggesting was maybe take the SIM card from your other Cingular phone, or perhaps your wife's, and put it into the BB. Regardless of a data plan, you will still have phone signal. see if another SIM card works for that phone. if it doesn't, then you KNOW its the phone.

Re: will not connect with Cingular network

    Thank you.....

That's exactly what I was trying to say. Regardless of data packages, any sim card will still detect the network. So, if you put a sim card into it, and it doesn't get a singal at all with any sim card, then the phone is probably defective. The stores will not help on this one, you would have to submit that to warranty.

Re: will not connect with Cingular network

rob, it has to be your phone. now that we know that NO OTHER sim card works!
was there any type of warranty that came with the phone? hopefully you bought from a good eBay seller. i would start with them first. it may be why they sold the phone in the first place
