What significance does this shortcut have?

Can't remember what I was doing last night, but I was on the 8700 and hit the ALT+Back Button on the side of the device. It brought up a menu that lists:
home screen, browser, messenger, bb pix, 411, ramble, google talk, yahoo, phone, messages.
Scroll to the one that you want and let off the back button and it takes you there.

Kinda nifty, but don't really understand the significance. This may be answered in another post, but I didn't come across it.

It allows you to switch apps without having to use the escape button on the side of the device, similar to ALT+TAB on a PC keyboard.

Yeah, I mean I realize that. Guess my question should have been:

Does anyone actually use this short cut?

Always, it keeps me from losing my place when switching from browsing and BB messaging at the same time. Or switching between memos and browser when cutting and pasting links.

    Hope this helps.

Why wouldn't one use this essential option?

If you don't use it, how do you get from one app to another? Or would one be continuously exiting apps just to switch between them?

With the 7290 once you let up off the Alt key it will take you to the application you scrolled to not the back button.
