Hi everyone! This site looks great.

I pick up my 8703e tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm pretty pumped, and am already planning out what I want to do first with it.

So, with that being said, can anyone help me with these questions:

I have an unlimited Data Plan and am on VerizonWireless.

1.) How do I install AIM on my BB while using my data plan, and not my SMS?

2.) How do I upload songs as ringtones? I don't need to d/l a song then edit it in Audacity, do I? Can I do this via the USB port (just upload a song from my laptop to the BB)?

3.) Is setting up my e-mail on the BB hard?

4.) Is there an application where I can type my contacts/phone numbers into my laptop and then just upload then via USB to my BB?

    Thanks in advance!

    -Chris

    Welcome to PinStack Chris.

Is your data Plan a BlackBerry Data Plan? I'm not sure about the AIM app.

The 8703 uses MP3, Midi, or Wav ringtones. You will need something to convert any other format to one of those.

Setting up email is simple. There will be an icon called setup Wizard which will lead you through the setup of your BB including email.

The BlackBerry Desktop Manager application that comes with your device has a sync feature that syncs with several common Personal information Managers such as Outlook, Lotus or even exports and imports from an AscII file

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with your BlackBerry.

    Welcome to the BB world.

#1. Suggest you do a search. I found 3130 references to AIM on the forum. Don't use it so I can't help.

#2. Can't help you there. I use an iPOD and XM radio. Some 87xx models cannot play mp3s or wav.

#3. Assuming you will be on BIS, email set up is easy. Log into the BIS site and the set up as many as 10 email accounts. Very similar to setting up a POP3 account.

#4. Outlook is probably the mst popular application for calendar, contacts, tasks and email. Fairly easy to use the th eBB syncs with it via Desktop Manager.

My Data Plan is a BlackBerry Data Plan through VerizonWireless.

About the ringtones. Someone said from the BlackBerry, browse to the site with the song, and save it to the device...will this work if I want to set the song as a ringtone?

Sounds like the others have pointed out some of the best options for your questions. I would like to point out that this site is good for DLing free MP3 ringtones. Just point your BB browser and download over the air. Also, for AIM, you might try Jivetalk (a multiclient IM client.) You can find it by doing a search of the forums. Enjoy, and let us know if we can help more.

You'll need to find an AIM-compatible client that doesn't use SMS for message delivery. Whether or not an IM app uses SMS or not depend on the app that you're looking at. Some do and some don't. Sorry, I'm not familiar with them since I don't use them on my BB. I only IM with my wife using BB Messenger since she also has a BB.

You can't transfer ringtones via USB without a 3rd party app (I haven't seen any free ones for this purpose) or until 4.2 is released for the 8703e.

Not really. You can use the Set Up Personal Email icon on your BB or log into your carrier's BIS site. I find the latter to be easier but you'll need to know your PIN and IMEI (check Options->Status) for that approach. In most cases you only need to know the email address and password to integrate an account with BIS.

Intellisync supports sync with several apps and can even load to/from an ASCII file. I'd recommend installing Desktop Manager and using Outlook. The BB syncs very well with Outlook.
