If by number you mean(#), that is also the cap key.

Nothing, that is normal, think of you PC keyboard, left shift and right shift. The NUM is the Left shift and the CAP is the right shift. When presed at the same time or right after the ALT key you get NUM lock and CAP Lock respectfully.

    Hope this Helps

Re: Num Key is Now My Cap Key!

I thought that when I wanted to type a number I hit the NUM key once then the number. If I wanted to keep it in Number mode, I hit Alt then Num and then it stays in number mode until I hit the num key again. Right now to type a number, I am having to hit Alt then number, type the number then hit the num key again to release the number locks.

When you fill in certain fields in a form layout the BB seems to know that you want to type a number and automatically enters the number rather than the letter you actually typed.
Otherwise type ALT and the number to get a single number or ALT and NUM to input several numbers.

Duh....now i feel really stupid. That is how it has always been. For some reason I was thinking that i had hit the NUM key instead of the Alt key. Just like when you need a cap you hit the cap key like a sift key. I was thinking it was the same way with the Num key.
It has been a very very long month!!!
Thank you all for your help.

The key marking convention on the Blackberry is pretty consistent.

Press the key alone and you get the bottom symbol.

Press alt + key and you get the top symbol.

The triangles on the shift keys mean "shift". Alt + left shift is NUM (num lock) and Alt + right shift is CAP (cap lock). Note how NUM and CAP sit above the traingles just like all the other keys...

(I guess the $/Speakerphone key is an exception)
