    New 8703e user here

I just got an 8703e unit with Enterprise that's using version 4.1 now. Would I be able to update my device to 4.2 software so I can take advantage of the media manager and the added features without interrupting my Enterprise service? First time owner of a BB device and it seems all very new to me right now and I'm learning SO much as I read, read, read, and read some more.

    Thanks

Anytime you do an update to your OS you will have to re-do your enterprise activation. It is a pretty simple thing to do though. I guess it depends on your company and its IT dept whether or not they want to say its a big deal. If you let them know ahead of time, you could do the update and then they could send you the password for activation right afterwards.

Thanks. I also found out there is no 4.2 device SW available for this unit right now anyway. Who knows if when that comes out the device can have 4.2, but the server still run 4.1. I'm thinking no, since the server and device need to be mingled together perfectly for everything to work just right. My guess, anyway.

    Thanks again.

Server and handheld OS do not need to match. Everyone has been assuming that 4.2 for 87XX devices will add such features but there's no definite word on that. If you really need the media features then you should go with the 8100 or the 8800.

You're gonna love it. Just one thing: hold off on upgrading to Vista, if you had any plans on doing that with your computer. Blackberry doesn't have Vista drivers out yet. I learned this the hard way, heh. Same goes for Sprint's connection manager software, it doesn't work yet for Vista.

Fortunately my work computer still runs XP, so that's what I'm using for now.
