    DrWoo,

Were you a bubblehead, er, submariner, or did you just catch this tone on the movies or tv? Trying to help in the search.

    Ok,

The movie crimson tide, when denzel, is taking the ship back again. He contacts the radio operator that's fixing the radio. When he uses the phone system, he cranks it up and it sounds like a bird or something like that. I know the main radio system is the 1MC, but it's not that. I think if I remember correctly, it's the one to one radio

    P.S.
I was not a bubblehead... hehe... Never served on a sub either, didn't like the fact, I wasn't gonna see the light of day for MONTHS on end... heh

Re: looking for a specific sound

I thought the 1MC was a wired voice comms system, not a radio. But then I was an airdale that never served onboard ship. All we has was the ICS.

It wasn't a radio for external coms, just internal

DrWoo, Check Out this description of the 1MC system from the NAVSEA Damage Control Website. It's just a announcement system. Doesn't say if it's wired or wireless though.

Re: looking for a specific sound

    ok,

It's a wired system inside of a sub. There's multiple com systems within a sub. You have external com's for communicate outside of the sub to command. Then you have a couple different com's for inside the sub, one of them being the 1MC. Now, there's another com system that's in the that's not powered by the sub electrical system, a backup hand powered system. When this "backup system" is used, when an incomming call is "ringing" it gives off a bird like chirping noise. (my guess is that in a silent situation, this is used to emit a sound of an underwater creature that would disgues there com's vs. a "phone ring"

Basically, I need to find a bubblehead, that's seen that movie to know what I'm talking about. Or anyone else that's seen that movie to know what the sound is. I guess I could just rip all the sound off my DVD and clip out that chunk, but I would rather not do that... I'm lazy heh

Re: looking for a specific sound

Ok, you're talking about the Voice Powered ICS. Didn't know it had a ringer. When I went through basic, during the training sessions abord the USS Recruit, we used it, but you were on a specific circuit and all you did was press the Talk Button and speak. Everyone on that circuit heard you. But that was a long, long, very long time ago.

Don't know where you might find that chirp except by finding DVD of the film and ripping the audio for that one.

Re: looking for a specific sound

    Hey all,

Sorry for the long delay in the replies... as some of you know, I'm going to be a daddy VERY soon. So, I haven't had much time to read here... However... to my ringer problem. I was afraid, I was gonna have to do that, I just didn't really want to rip an entire dvd, for a sound clip that's about 1.5 seconds long.... ya know... lol

    Thanks again,
    Dr. Woo

Congratulations on the Upcoming event. Good Luck. As to Ripping the DVD, I don't know what sound editor/capture app you use, but with Audacity, I just find the spot where the sound is and figure out a point to start the sound capture in audacity just before the sound and stop recording just after. ALT TAB works wonders.
