    Key Store Password

I am currently running on BIS with a new 8700g which replaced a unit connected to a BES from my previous employer.
The BES security IT policy "default" was remaining on the unit so, T-Mobile agreed to switch it out for a "clean" unit.
I am not sure that the unit is clean because there appears to be a preset password on the KEY STORES.
When I attempt to change any of the settings and save it I get the prompt >>
    ------------
The following application is requesting access to your key store password.
Your password will be validated against new IT policy password requirements.
Please enter your Key Store Password.
Vendor Name = Research In Motion, LTD.
    Application Name = Options
    Calling Modules =
    net_rim_crypto_1-2
    net_rim_bb_options
    net_rim_bb_framework_api-1
    --------------
I have run the IT Policy Removal process explained at the following link: http://blackberry.ig3.net/

I recievied this message after executing the policy and reconnecting the unit to the Desktop Manager.
    ------------

    What do you suggest?
    What are Key Stores?
There is no documentation in the 8700g manual of the functionality and T-Moble Blackberry Helpdesk personnel did not have a clue when I asked.

    SHW, Welcome to PinStack.

Does the request come from the Desktop manager or on the BB? if from the Desktop Manager, is it the same install as you were using with the original BB?

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

The message is being generated from the BB unit.
Do I have a security issue?

I'm afraid I can't help with this. I think the Keystores are for the storage of Digital Certificates required for access to some gov't sites. I don't know anything more to say. Sorry. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on this will come along with the answer.

    Re: Key Store Password

In my experience the BB will only ask for a key store password if you are using the s/mime and/or smart card reader software. I would use the application loader to remove these two programs if you don't need them. If that doesn't work I would completely wipe the BB by using the application called Javaloader.
