I need to sync two computers...

I need to sync two computers, both pc, with my 8700. I would like be able to sync home and office with my office computer being the default or main computer and home simply has all of the information on it that my 8700 and office pc has. I've been able to do this with a Treo in the past and tell the home computer that the handheld overrides the pc. How can I do the same with my 8700? I am using Outlook on both pc's. I have upgraded my desktop to 4.2 and have upgraded my bb to the latest Cingular os 4.0.1.377. I've searched the forums but haven't found exactly the answer I need. Thanks in advance.

you should be able to do this by simply syncing with desktop manager. i guess i am not sure the question you are asking. the settings are within the sync application under the configuration tab on what to keep/what wins/etc. i sync with both work and home with no problems.

Right -- settings are in Intellisync if you want to tell it to overwrite one way or the other.

If you're on BES at work make sure that you do not install Desktop Manager with the BES option at home or else you will break mail delivery from work every time you sync at home (and until you sync at work again).

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Takeshi - are you saying I can sync with two pc's; 1 to sync Outlook (i.e. not connected to work / BES) and 2 to my work pc with BES? And it will not cause a problem?

Question Re: I need to sync two computers...

I was so hoping this would work!

I've installed Desktop Manager on my home pc (as BIS, and not BES), but still can't sync Calendar, Tasks, or Contacts. It basically says because I already have wireless sync enable (from work, since we have a BES), it won't allow it...

So, my question is, can I have:

    1. My BlackBerry 8700 on BES at work, wirelessly...
    2. At home on my pc....
    3. Sync at home with MY Outlook, thus not coping and pasting all the time?

    navilyn,

You need to turn off wireless sync temporarily when you want to sync to the Home PC. Of course everything on your work PC will be on your Home PC and vice versa.

    Hope this helps

Thumbs up Re: I need to sync two computers...

Thanks Rcbjr! I will try that. I was lead to believe that I could turn the wireless sync off, but, it would have been an issue to turn it back on, because of BES etc...

    But, again, thanks...

Re: I need to sync two computers...

Navilyn, I too am trying to do this. I also have BES at work, and tried what was suggested here with the exact same results as you. Not knowing what turning Off wireless sync would do to my BES and BB functionality, I stopped there.

Navilyn, did you try it? Still not able to sync here - not even sure how to turn wireless sync off, even temporarilty while syncing my home machine, anyway.

Re: I need to sync two computers...

    Oh boy, oh boy...

I tried it alright, and totally messed everything up. I lost my connection to BES (thank God am an Administrator on the server, and could add myself back)...

Bottom line is, I'll leave well alone, for now. I think copy and paste will be my preferred option. If anything the only items I need copied to my 'home' Outlook is contacts, and calendar items - so, no big deal really...

Re: I need to sync two computers...

Has anyone figured this out yet? I would like to be able to sync between both desktop (main) & laptop. Step by step directions would be appreciated more than I can say. I am new to BB & this site. Please consider spreading your knowledge about this syncing.

    Thanks so much! Danielle

Daniellerobinet, I am a very new BB user and have exactly the same problem as you. Basically, if the Blackberry is set up to sync wirelessly with a server at your workplace, it seems that if you install the Desktop manager on your home computer, it will not allow you to sync with your home computer's Outlook. I have tried turning off the wireless using the option on the BB's main menu, but it makes no difference. I think when the error message says that the BB is set up for wireless sync, it does not mean the switch 'on/off' of the wireless; this is probably only intended for when you are on an aeroplane so you don't interfere with its systems! What the error message means is that the BB is set up to communicate _only_ wirelessly, with a Blackberry Enterprise Server. I have no idea why it should be a problem - certainly I have used Windows Mobile PDAs until recently, and I had no problem syncing both wired and wirelessly with my work computer, and also wired with my home computer. All I can suggest is (a) seeking a possible third-party application that will let you do this, or (b) asking your IT guys at work if they can 'de-wireless' you so that you sync only directly with your workplace Outlook via a cable. Option (b) will probably work, but you will then lose the advantage of being able to pick up new emails and sync your calendar etc while on the road! I think Blackberry is a bit cr*p! Please let me know if you also find a solution. In the meantime I am going to uninstall Blackberry Desktop from my home computer - I hope it doesn't leave a bunch of junk lying around to slow down my system :-(
