Question How to stop the disappointment...

I want to know if there is a way to have a particular tone/sound play when I receive emails from a particular contact (you know who you are!)?

I know we can create an exception for caller id, but...

It's so disappointing to hear, 'you've got mail', only to take your BlackBerry out of the holster, or off the desk to see that it's email from some idiot at work asking a question that you've answered for them a 100 times over...

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Go into profiles, click the wheel, select New Exception. Set it up with whoever you want the exception for.

I have mine set for Address Book entries which ONLY have emails (no phone numbers) and this will over-ride the profile setting.

    Well, it works for me.

Remember: don't go through the Address Book to set this up. That will only do phone calls and ringers.

Well, sorry to say it's not working. I've followed your instructions, and even in the exception, it says, 'custom phone tone'. But, the contact I have in there ONLY has an email address...

All my testing has come to one solution, create a profile for each contact, tried it and it works fine....

    1) Create a new profile, name it the name of the person you want
    2) Under messages pick the ringtone you want
    3) Create new exception, name it the person you want
    4) Where it says "Use Profile" choose the new profile you created

Now that I think about it navi, Ive been trying to find a free way to do this, and because of your question I came up with my own solution. Im sure this has been discussed before, I cant take the credit for it, but I never saw it, now Im a little bit happier! Also, thanks to Lewis for steering me in the right direction. Wonder why your way isnt working for me lewis?

Anyone else try the exceptions for different email notifications? Has it worked for ya? Anyone try creating a new profile for each contact you want to have special notifications for? I am enjoing knowing who the email came from before I even think about grabbing my BB. My job just became a tad bit easier!
