Not sure if even an os upgrade will help you separate email and SMS. Someone who has upgraded to the new 4.2 wanna answer that?
You can choose to not show missed calls in the settings menu of your phone application.

Go to call log and click trackwheel and choose options. Then choose call logging. And choose none.

I hope that's right BC I have never used an 8700

Not that I'm aware of. I have mine set to different tones though. So, I can audibly tell the difference when the arrive.

    Re: Help

According to the quick start quides for both the 8700 and the Pearl show regular message icons (Read email) as being rectangular while SMS message icons are not rectangular but as a parallelagram. MMS icon is the SMS one with a triangle imposed in it.

    Hope this helps.
