Post FreeNews: How to set up a 'direct connection'?

I've been having problems getting FreeNews to work at all on my 8700c. FreeRange, Inc. says that they do not currently support BBs that have the following service book: "IPPP for BIBS (IPPP)". They only support "Desktop (IPPP)". [Strangely, FreeNews worked just fine the first time I downloaded it, but I later started getting java error messages indicating my cache was full.] After deleting and reinstalling several times I never been able to get it work.

They suggest I connect using "Direct Connection (TCP) method by checking this box in the RWDS Settings". Question: Where are the RWDS settings and where can I check the "Direction Connection in TCP". I don't see that option on my BB under TCP. They also say I will need to add a valid APN for my carrier - Cingular. Is this a roundabout way of saying I need an ISP setting instead of WAP???
