    Hi,

I update my wordpress blog with my blackberry 8700g on T-Mobile. However I get some characters which are converted incorrectly when displayed on my blog.

My blog uses utf-8 (unicode) as the charset any ideas what the BB uses or has anyone else seen or solved this problem ?

    Gherkin.

A character set includes common letters and numbers. The BlackBerry device supports the following character sets.
    For BlackBerry Device Software 4.1

    • ASCII
    • Windows-1252
    • UTF-8
    • ISO:
      • iso-8859-1
      • iso-8859-2
      • iso-8859-7
      • iso-8859-9
      • Windows-1250
      • Windows-1252
      • Windows-1253
      • Windows-1254
    • CJK:
      • BIG5
      • BIG5-HKSCS
      • GB2312
      • GB18030
      • GBK
      • HZ-GB-2312
    For BlackBerry Device Software 4.0

    • ASCII
    • Windows (CP)-1252
    • UTF-8
    • BIG5-HKSCS
    • HZ-GB-2312
    • GB18030
For BlackBerry Device Software Versions Prior to 4.0

    • ASCII
    • Windows-1252
When a message is sent to the device in an unsupported character set, it is converted to a supported character set. As a result, some converted characters might display incorrectly on the device. To avoid this problem, messages should be sent in plain text or one of the supported character sets listed above.

Re: email - what character set - problems updating blog

My problem is the other way round. When I send an email from the blackberry it arrives at the other end garbled.

I need to know what format the email is in when it is sent from the blackberry.

My blog (Wordpress) is set up to use UTF-8 but when I send an email from the blackberry to "automagically" update my blog the text is garbeled and it looks like a character set issue.

    e.g.

in my blackberry i type - This is just text
    on my blog i get - VGhpcyBpcyBqdXN0IHRleHQNClRoaXMgaXMgbW9yZSB0ZXh0IG FuZCBiZWxvdyBhcmUgdGhlIHN0

    strange but true.

Gherkin.. did you ever find out the solution? I have a similar problem where MOST of the bb users' messages come through fine, but one particular one shows up as yours does -- garbled...

Thumbs down Re: email - what character set - problems updating blog

Hi, similar problem - my bb is on the BES and when e-mails are sent through the BES they come out encoded as UTF-8. When mail is sent via the Web Client, the text is plain.

I don't have access to the BES (I am part of huge corporation) but how do I steer my IT people in the right direction to fix this? Is it something simple like toggling a "set outgoing mail format to plain text" option?

The application that uses the e-mail to update a service request can't decipher the UTF-8 message. I can't change the app.

    Cheers.
