    Dead key issue with 8700

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if they've had a key go dead on their BB 8700 before? This is where the key starts to not work when you press it. I have had this happen once so far and got a replacemen. Now, with this BB, it's happening again but on another key. I'm getting another replacement but I can't figure out why this would happen to me twice when it is supposedly not a common issue.

I do use my bb alot and type on it pretty often but no more so than most and isn't that what its for? Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong or is it just my karma?

I'm having my first key go bad now. Its the back key under the wheel. Kinda hard to operate without it, but doable. I'm getting the phone replaced.
I've seen a 7100 with a wheel that would not click in, but other than that I don't see many issues with buttons from any of our users.

    vickypaz, Welcome to PinStack.

In the year that the 8700 has been out, I have heard of one or two key failures on them but that as about all. It is possible for failures to occur, and for the same failure to occur for one person.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

Could be an enviromental issue. Do your work in an area that "sticky" substances could be transfering from your hands to your BB? I know that the IV Contrast we use in CAT Scan gets in my watches and the buttons stick after a period of time.
For that reason alone I keep my BB away from the contrast

My Y went out for about a week and now it is fine. Gonna need to get the gremlins removed.

Could have been a dust particle or something else like that.

Keep us informed if it comes back.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~key not responding? Hard reset, it happened to my 8700g once. My side shortcut key was not responding when I press it, but after hard reseting it, I got it to work again.

Re: Dead key issue with 8700

    Hi guys,
I was away for a few days but I appreciate all the advice. I hadn't thought about a lot of the things you mentioned so thanks. I got the replacement BB on Tuesday and so far, it's fine. But the dead key issue generally happens 2 months after so we'll see what happens. TM said if this happens again they might have to send me a totally different BB, can't imagine what.

Flash24, how do you do a hard reset?

Re: Dead key issue with 8700

Hard reset = Cold Reboot (Battery Out, wait 15-30 sec, Battery Back in).

    Hope this helps

So far my phone has been pretty damn good.
