    Hi,

the phone is an 8700c silver.

    Cannot send text messages,

says that the number sending to is unassigned.

tried from new BOLD - texting works fine.

went through all service provider troubleshooting.

    got new sim card

    can RECEIVE texts, calls.

    Thanks.

    1) Be sure the message center number (options / SMS) is programmed in correctly. Check with your carriers tech support for the right number. Or you can probably google for the number, but I'd recommend getting it from tech support to ensure you're on the right number (and no, it's not your phone number).

    2) Make sure 'Network to send over' (options / SMS) says GSM and not SPRS.

    3) Reboot your phone, and you should be in business.

Go to Options>SMS text and see if a number is assigned under the heading "Service Center", if no number is there type your sms number in.

If there is a number there, check to make sure it is correct.

If that all checks out, then the problem is either application or OS related. First thing to try (since you are able to send sms from your
Bold) is run the Device Switch wizard from your Bold to your 87 using Desktop Manager. If that repairs it, then it was an application glitch (something in the settings). If that doesn't work, then re-install your current OS (Operating System) or upgrade to a newer OS. If you get that far, we will be happy to give detailed instructions how to accomplish that.

If that doesn't fix it then it's hardware -

Mike and I were typing at the same time, but he was a faster typist - his second suggestion, "Network to Send Over", is great - good suggestion jusMikeP!

My 8700 has three options..."GSM", "GPRS", and "GPRS preferred"...

Is there any harm in having it set to "GPRS preferred"? Mine is set to this and seems to work fine...but that doesn't mean its right!
