Same here, been an ongoing issue with no solution.
I recently started to lock my 8700 and now it won't display caller info from Address Book for incoming calls: just the phone number.
After ending call it does display name in call log-just not during incoming call.
It doesn't do this when phone is unlocked.
Always somewhere else
This is a security issue. If your phone is locked and you lose it, whomever has it and answers it won't know the name of the contact calling you. Its not a bug. But it is kinda frustrating.
No, no, am sure this is to do with the security settings (compression or content protection)...
Do a search, am sure we've discussed this, either here, or elsewhere, am positive...
Let me test it...
...do you happen to have content encryption on? If yes, caller ID won't work, even if it's in the phone book.
Turn it off: Options/ Security Options / General Settings / Content Protection
~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ So you are saying if content protection is off then the name will appear while the BB is locked?
...as per someone else on another forum. Am trying to test it now...
officer - when you lock your device, is there a padlock at the TOP of the screen? If yes, is it locked, or unlocked?
Locked means encrytion is on, and active...
Unlocked means encrytion is on, but still running the process to become active, like when you 'first' turn that feature one...
Nonetheless, that's what's causing the caller ID issue...
If you want an explanation, I'll bite. Content protection encrypts all data on the BB. When a call comes in, the phone app cannot read the encrypted data so it just shows the number. Once the phone is unlocked and you go to the log the data is unencrypted and the Contact name can be displayed. You have a choice, Protected data or Caller ID when locked. Your Choice.
Hope this helps
...thanks Rcbjr! You made that so clear!
...oh, one more point:
1. I think it makes the device slower (my opinion)
Ok so I tested it on my own and you guys are right. Wow, something so easy and BB tech has no idea. Just a thought, if it is to protect you if your BB is lost so the person who gets it doesnt see the persons name on the caller id? DUH, wouldnt it make sense not to show the number, I dont care if they see the name HONEY, but I dont want them getting my girlfriends number.
cp6169 - you're right, to a degree. But if a phone is lost or stolen, and people are calling in, if I had the phone, I'd be less interested if various numbers just kept popping up. Now, if names were showing, like 'Honey', I'd be more likely to want to answer it - LOL
Navilyn: "Hi Honey, how are you today?",
Honey: "Who is this, with that sexy voice, where is cp6169?" - LOL
