    Hi Gary,

I just ran the installer for the OS and its asking me if I want to repair it or remove the program? Is this referring to the exisitng program I have in my handheld now? which one should I pick? Thanks so much, im a total noob at this.

By any chance did you use control panel? (thats not correct)

If yes, you need to simply double click the program you dl'd to your desktop.

I doubled clicked it and it asked for setup language,

I chose english then clicked OK and it goes to "preparing to install" then

the welcome to the installshield wizard for blackberry v4.2.1 for the 8700 series wireless handheld. Clicked next then it goes to program maintenance

    then 2 options

Repair - Repair installation errors in the program. This option fixes missing or corrupt files, shortcuts, and registry entries.

Remove - Remove blackberry v4.2.1 for the 8700 series wireless handheld from your computer.

    Wat do u think?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ If you're needing to make more room on the device due to it erasing messages, just delete applications, themes, old messages, and languages you don't use. If I am reading your original post correctly.

    Falcon,

It sounds like you installed the same OS that is already on your desktop....and Erica's solution may indeed work for you with less work.

Its definately not an issue with having too many apps bc i have over 20,000,000 bytes of free memory and it still deletes itself after 2-3 days.

So your saying that I already have that version of OS installed on my handheld?

not sure what else would cause that....Please confirm (ALT EACE) or (Options - About) the current version on your device. Also please confirm which link you used to DL the new software....

Right click on the program you dl'd to your desktop and select properties to confirm the version #.

If you wish try to install it again, selecting repair.

Yes, you do. Once the device operating system is installed on your PC (not just downloaded but installed by executing the file you downloaded) you need to find and delete vendor.xml, then start Desktop Manager / Application Loader (actually you can just launch the loader found in the same folder as the vendor file) You will then be prompted to upgrade.

Now you can run desktop manager / application loader and it will ask you if you want to upgrade. Again you can either choose to upgrade with a back up restore or without. Either way just to be safe I would back up first.
You are so awesome. Thank you for that little tidbit of information right there. Very thorough. Bravo! You know how it can be with the communications device is out.. Thank you again!!!!!
