According to blackberry.com, 8700G has GPS?

But, I don't think my T-mobile 8700G has GPS. Or at least it isn't enabled in the software because map software can't see it.

    Whats the scoop?

You would need a subscription to TeleNav (or some other subscription based GPS service) and a GPS receiver (and dashboard mount to put your BB in) to use it. The 8100 and 8800 models have GPS built in.

Hmm, that is misleading. They use the same text for the 8700g and the 8703e:

    "GPS-enabled for Location-based Services"

The 8703e has a built-in GPS receiver. The 8700g does not.

All phones in the US have GPS in them, a federal mandate from January '05 I believe. Whether you can utilize the GPS for navigation or mapping is up to the carrier.

Still, nothing in the specs for the 8703e versus the 8700g indicates that the 8703e has built-in GPS for navigation while the 8700g (or 8700c or 8700r, etc for that matter) does not.

Verizon disabled access to the GPS in the 8703e but you can't access GPS on any 8700x, regardless of carrier without an external bluetooth GPS puck... and it's not because Cingular/TMO/Rogers disabled anything.

I don't think the 8100 has it built in, but you can use a external one, i've done that before...

I have 8700g and a gps bluetooth puck (pharos GPS) that I previously used with a PPC.

There is no way to make this work via google maps or BB maps without subscription based servce??
