    Re: 8703e Upgrade to 4.2

My sources have said that the .377 update has no real enhancements to the OS that anybody will benefit from. (Not sure what the point of it is) The updated handheld code is required, if you would like to use Desktop Manager/App Loader to install applications. Currently new 8703's shipped from Verizon are coming with .377 software.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~so what was the point of putting some thing that has no inprovments? Still waiting for 4.2, we might be waiting for a long time.

The updated OS release includes the DST patch as part of the operating system. No further need to have the DST patch after upgrading.

Sprint would not release an upgrade for one small item, there are many issues that have been fixed with the new update. I saw a sheet on what they were, but cant remember where it is. I asked my RIM rep to send it again, will post when I receive it.

    Re: 8703e Upgrade to 4.2

So I am gathering from it all that 4.2 is a few months out. Oh well I wanted the get my voice mails on my BB but, from what I am reading even the BIS 2.3 upgrade tonight will not allow it until I have 4.2. Is that correct?

    Re: 8703e Upgrade to 4.2

When it comes to supporting the end user, does anybody have any concerns with supporting the Media functionality that 4.2 will enable on the 8703e?

I could see that typical end user, loading the device up with MP3's, and opening a trouble ticket because he is out of Memory?

I am guessing that IT policy is the way to go, and disable the media player.

    What does everybody else think?

Man, I really don't even care about the MM stuff. I just want to be able to upload attachments to new email!!!! For the life of me, with RIMs lead in Email technology, I can NOT understand why this hasn't been an option on the older OS.

gah. i'm kinda stuck in a delema. i'm still within my 30 day trial for my 8703e and the manager has convinced me to buy a 8703e instead of the new 8830. 8830 has 4.2 but everything else is looking like we may never get an update for the 8703e....do you think there is going to be an update..i don't care how long it takes, as long as it comes at some point.

I don't know. It is hard to tell at this point. I know I am going to wait it out as I can't get a new one right now. I'll just me waiting like the rest of us.

Alltel will be getting the update some time between mid July and Aug. That is straight from my contact guy at RIM...

That's inline with what's been rumored from Verizon. RIM is currently working on the final release.

It really shouldn't be surprising considering how little memory the 87xx's have...
