I will be upgrading to the 8703e in the next 2 months. Does anyone know if there is a way to enable GPS capabilities for Verizon? It's not a deal breaker just want to know.

I do not believe there is Tai. Here's a little more discussion about it: http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...vs_sprint.html

I'm with Bell... It looks like Bell disabled the GPS feature like Verizon did in US. (I found out that Bell offers location service which works like GPS for $5/use basis)

So Telus enabled GPS feature on 8703e???

I think the reason Telus has it enabled it because they are the equivelant of Sprint-Nextel in the US.

The only solution I'm aware of is not patronizing Verizon (infamous for crippling their devices).

    Re: 8703e GPS / Unlock

It sounds like Verizon disabled GPS on the 8703e because their own VZ Navigator doesn't work with the 8703e (great reasoning on their part).

    Re: 8703e GPS / Unlock

Has anyone tried loading onto a Verizon 8703e the handheld software that Sprint uses (v. 4.1.0.493)? I'm ready to cancel my Verizon contract and switch to Sprint.

    Re: 8703e GPS / Unlock

I doubt it is physically disabled. The GPS chip works for emergency services (911 calls) (Verizon won't activate a phone that doesn't work for E911.) So the GPS chip physically works. There must be a programmed lock on the GPS chip to disable it except in emergencies. BTW, Verizon said they plan to enable GPS, but they wouldn't say when.
