    8700C Screen Question

The other day I pulled my 8700C from its holster and noticed a pair of curving black lines across the face. After a minute or so (i thought), the lines disappeared. They looked like a light bulb had burned out/in across the face. It did not happen again until this morning.

I am wondering if this is an issue with my unit or is it something to do with the light sensor for the unit in which case there is nothing wrong.

Has anyone else come across this? I'll try and take a digi pic if it happens again.

    Regards,

    Erik

    Re: 8700C Screen Question

Does the 8700 case have a magnet, my 7100 does, and whenever I put my case or phone near a tv screen or computer screen I get all kinds of funny lines! Just a thought.

8700G here, and have never experienced anything remotely to what you are referring to...

What kind of a case are you using?

    It could be magnetic.

I figured I'd post the question here and see if I was alone in this one or if someone else had encountered it.

Its the out of the box 8700c with its plastic holster.

    Re: 8700C Screen Question

I think I have found the likely problem but would appreciate it if one of you all could do the experiment with me. If you view your Blackberry through sunglasses, do you "see" the exact same screen as you do without the sunglasses?

I work outdoors quite a bit and have discovered that the blotching (for lack of better term) only appears when viewing the 8700 with sunglasses on. I've attached a couple of pictures and would be interested if anyone else has the same results.

Call it the Saturday morning Pink Floyd Blackberry test...

    Re: 8700C Screen Question

Polarized Sunglasses perhaps? If you rotate the BB does the blotching change with the rotation?

    Just a thought

    Re: 8700C Screen Question

    Nah, not polarized.

The blotching is always in the same two areas. I'm wondering if RIM uses a sandwich technique - glass - filling - glass (or something of the sort) and one of the times I've dropped it may have caused a leak or bleed in the filling.

Oh well, how am I going to pursuade Cingular on this one....

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ok nm than. I know on some phones it will effect it if say you have blue lenses or red lenses. You just don't see some colors that are supposed to be there and it looks weird.

Doesn't sound like your prob though.

    Re: 8700C Screen Question

if you have polarized sunglasses on you will see black lines running through the screen because my brother told me i had lines running through my screen the other day while we were in the car but i didn't see them. We traded glasses and i then saw them. His sunglasses are polarized and mine aren't. Polarized glasses play some crazy tricks on your eyes sometimes. Tinted windows anyone?

Have no idea how I missed the rest of this post initially, especially after you posted the pictures, but yes, the sunglasses are the culprit. I have 2 different pairs of sunglasses, and with one pair I get the same effect, with the other I do not. Neither are polarized, but I do believe one has a certain type of UV protection that the other does not, which I would assume to be the reason.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

    Re: 8700C Screen Question

No worries. Thanks for the reply. I ended up with a second 8700C that does not have quite the blurred screen as the first.
