I can see who is calling when device gets locked for policy - no need for new device. Love my 8700

I like the upgrade as well, although I too have noticed that volume seems lower on ringtones and also that battery life does seem to be a bit less on a full charge... although that is just anecdotal, no hard evidence at this time. I really like being able to dial by name from the main screen instead of needing to go into the address book, and I like having pictures for contacts too. My unit does not seem to be slower than before (at least not dramatically so) but I do notice during heavy scripting/shockwave-loaded sites the device sometimes requires a reset to get rid of the hourglass. That said, I am very glad I did the upgrade. Also, I had to have my BES administrator reset my account and re-do enterprise activation, unlike what some others have said. All in all, though, it is a good upgrade.

I Upgraded my 8703e (Verizon) to 4.2 and within two days downgraded. It was way too slow, despite some of the cooler features.

The upgrade seems to be pretty good. Choosing profiles using side button is a bit slower, but a lot more pleasing to look at. They removed the Jazz ringtone, which wasn't cool. Some areas are slightly slower, others are pretty much the same. Love the ability to separate SMS and regular e-mail.

All in all, it seems like a refreshing upgrade.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~I just miss my bike horn ring tone and kind of miss my 8700 as well. I play with it every once in a while, but I have gotten used to the Curve. I wish there was an 8700 with a trackball!!!

Re: 8700 4.2 Upgrade- WAS IT WORTH IT??

I've been on 4.2 for a few weeks now on my 8700c and sure, I like some of the bug fixes and some of the new features I suppose, but for me personally
    A) it is considerably slower. I mean a LOT slower. Deleting a message before was less than a second for it to return, and deleting 10 messages was maybe 5-7 seconds. Now deleting a message takes more than 2 seconds (yes, more than 2) and deleting many takes longer than just the 2 seconds each. It's like 4 seconds each.
    B) the browser locks up constantly on certain web pages. I suspect javascript (it says running script at bottom) but the hourglass keeps going and everything slows down even more. Even if I close the browser (which takes forever when the system is pausing every 1.5 to 2 seconds due to this assumed high cpu usage), it takes a reboot for the device to go back to normal. The hourglass shows up every 2 seconds no matter what app I'm on.
    C) phone locks up sometimes when trying to handle multiple calls. Say I'm on the phone. Call comes in. I answer the call, putting call#1 on hold. I finish talking and try to 'swap' or change over to other line. sometimes it disconnects both calls, but the up/down arrow is still going on. Any outbound call attempt results in 'call failed' and the do-Do-DO! sound. Reboot is only way to fix. This happens about 1 out of every 4 times I handle multiple calls. This did not do it on 4.1 or 4.0 (I've been on 8700 since the original RIM release party in San Francisco)

    I really like the
    A) auto-view attachment when pressing enter. I'm so glad I don't have to click track-wheel 37 times just to open the attachment

    I wish I could
    A) get ride of the setup icon. Why is it still there?
    B) get rid of push to talk icon. We disabled it via BES policy and still it shows up
    C) understand why the browser is ALWAYS running
    D) stop blackberry messenger - can't close it! MAybe this is why the battery keeps draining.
    E) oh yeah, the battery goes a LOT quicker with this version in my experience
    F) speed up the blackberry.

Re: 8700 4.2 Upgrade- WAS IT WORTH IT??

Well I posted a smidge too soon. I went ahead and completely reloaded 4.2 sp2 DTM and the latest 8700 OS, and now it's a buttered rocket compared to before. I don't know if maybe I had a bad load, or if I forgot to delete the vendor.xml file but now all my performance issues are gone.

It took a few hours but it's definitely worth it. As a comparison, deleting an item only takes maybe a 1/3 of a second now.
