I have a 7100v atm, but was thinking of upgrading when my carrier says it's that time of the year (dunno about you guys in the US, but most carriers over here in the UK give you a free upgrade every 12 months or so, as a sweetener to signing a new 12 month contract).

    Go on indulge yourself!
Tell me about the 8700 and the added features (apart from it's huge width and a full QWERTY keyboard!).

The HIGH speed! Don't know if you have it in the UK, but EDGE rocks my face!

    Re: 8700

I wish I could get an upgrade every 12 months but I'm never even offered a 1 yr contract with t-mobile, only 2 yr deals. And I just bought a 7105t so I guess I'll have to wait for my upgrade to come around.

The speed is awesome I agree. That alone has made it worth the upgrade cost to me. The auto dimming/lighting screen is convenient too. I have also noticed better signal coverage in formerly spotty areas. Takes some getting used to to find the ? ! , . Keys. Nice to have 2 hot buttons. The dedicated speakerphone and mute keys are nice. One recommendation that I have for rim is spacing the enter and delete keys a little farther apart. And the alt key kind of is a pain when trying to type numbers, but its no big deal.

Overall I would give it a 9 out of 10. Definately by my opinion the best wireless device that is currently on the market here in the U.S.

You can buy a new BB outright and just change out the sim card. That is what I did when I went from a SK2 to a BB 7100t. I bought the BB on ebay and changed out my SIM and service plan. Now if there is a new BB coming out in the next 2 years I will have to buy it, can't upgrade again for awhile.

They're mostly 3G in the UK already EDGE is old news there. hah.

It does rock face though. my face is rocked daily, the 8700 never lets me down.

As for your free upgrade every 12 months for a new 1 year term. Thats an awesome deal. I get an upgrade every year, but it's only $100 off the price if i were to be signing a new contract, and i have to resign for 3 years! I get most of my phones on ebay though, so it's all good.

I was happily surprised to find a strong EDGE signal at home.

    Re: 8700

Why you have to wait? You can get upgrade now... I've had my 7290 for 2 months and I got a good deal for the 8700 which is way below the $349 with 2 years contract before rebate on the website....
