Looking for a way to transfer my music FROM the iPod back to the PC, preferably free software, but whatever will work!

    Suggestions greatly appreciated!

If the music was purchased on Itunes and its on the ipod but not the PC Itunes should do it automatically when you sync. It has for me on several occasions.

It was not purchased on iTunes. The music is all from CDs I imported into iTunes. What a pain that was!

I only have about 12gb of music, but my stereo has a docking station for the iPod, so it's nice to have that much commercial free music to listen to!

iTunes should still reverse sync the music. No reason why it shouldn't like Erica stated.

Open up your explorer window and find your ipod. Go to View-> folder options (I think). There should be an option that says 'show hidden files'. In check that and you should the be able to search through your ipod and locate the horrible filing system that apple uses.

None of the songs will be labeled correctly. Actually the won't have any discernable naming system, but if you right click and check out the meta data, you will see the id3 info is intact.

Copy all the mp3s you have now located to your PCs harddrive.

Then set up itunes to 'keep tracks organized' so that it will rename all the tracks to the correct names on your pc. Also, be sure you have it set to copy the imported files into the itunes music folder.

Then in itunes, go to File -> add to library and find select the location that you copied your mp3s to. Itunes will copy the files into the Itunes Music folder and rename them according to the id3 data. Then just delete the files that you copied from your ipod so you don't have duplicates.

That's what I did, its a long process but its free.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Peace and love
