Who is your carrier? Below are instructions for tethering with AT&T:

You'll first need to have the Desktop Manager open.

Next, depending on if you're running XP, Vista, or 7, you need to make your way to the Standard Modem.

1. Open your start menu and go to run (if on XP) or in the Search box towards the bottom of the start menu.
2. Type in devmgmt.msc
3. Expand the modem list.
4. Right click the Standard Modem and select properties.
5. Click on the advanced tab and key in the following initialization string: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular"
6. Create a dial-up connection with Standard Modem as the selected device.
7. Login name: wap@cingulargprs.com
8. Password: CINGULAR1 (notice the capital letters)
9. Phone number: *99***1#
10. Start the dial-up.

You will need to have BlackBerry Desktop Manager open as this will not work otherwise.

You can also purchase an application called TetherBerry. I've used this for several months.

It's not cheap at 40.00, but it works like a charm.

I am currently tethered on my laptop using the above instructions, so it definitely works. Not sure of the implications it might have on your data, however.

The thing I like about TetherBerry is that it informs you of how much data you're using. Never had an issue with extra data charges with TetherBerry. Can't say for sure that won't be the case with this straight tethering method, however, even if you have unlimited data, but I'm pretty sure it won't be an issue.

There is supposed to be a way to set this up through DM by selecting IP Modem and selecting your carrier. Unfortunately I have not been able to get IP Modem to show up in my DM no matter what I've tried. I do have the latest DM and it's still not there.

I just installed DM5.0.1 (auto-upgrade) and it's there. Wasn't with DM5.0.

I can't find it on the latest version I downloaded either. It was there with the last version I had. Betcha it's because we're on AT&T, which doesn't allow tethering without an add-on tethering plan.

AT&T sticking it to the user again.......

I used the settings from your previous post to manually connect and got connected that way. Thanks for the help!
