Question Warning ! Device not found

I went to do a backup today. My 7100 shows the "lightning bolt" charging icon while connected to the laptop. Desktop manager does not see it. "Device not Found". Windows device manager shows no errors. I have removed and re-installed the software and still no luck. I do not want to try the new 4.2 without having a current backup.

    Anyone have this problem before?

    Thanks

    CP6169 -
Tried that as well. I am using a docking station. I have heard that that sometimes causes issues. It was working fine connected to the docking station before though.

Have you tried going in and manually detecting the connection?

Try using a USB cable instead.

Raybender, Connect your BB to a USB Port on your docking station, then open DM and under Options/Connection Settings, click on Detect. If that doesn't work try using the cable direct to your laptop USB port on the back.

    Hope this helps

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

One thing I have noticed is that merely re-seating the USB cable into another port may get it connected again.

Windows USB bus management is horrible at best.

Also, depending on your motherboard/computer, the port you are using may have choked/died. Laptop? May have a cable internally come loose or fall off.

    Just suggestions.

N8, RCBJR and Lewis, the device not found message shows up while attempting to detect the 7100 manually. Tried all usb ports both on the dock and the laptop by itself. Funny thing is that you hear the 2 tone "usb connection" sound when it is plugged in. Also shows the lightning bolt indicating that it is charging.

Re: Warning ! Device not found

This happened to me and a customer the other day. I had mentioned it to RCB. Turned out to be a faulty usb port on the BB itself. The BB would show charging, and the pc would show a device attached, but Desktop manager would not detect the BB. Thought I would share that.

Re: Warning ! Device not found

After your explanation it does sound like a BB hardware problem. It may be time for an upgrade/replacement. Are you still under warranty?

RC & CP, I thought the same about the possibility of a bad USB port on the unit. Tried connecting to a couple of different PC's and it shows up fine. Must be my Laptop USB drivers.

Using Blackberry Device Manager, I only see Com ports. Windows Device Manager shows the Blackberry under the USB listings. Not sure where to go next.

It sounds like you've tried everything the team could think of. Since you can get it to work on other PC's, I would think it must be a problem with your laptop. Not sure what the problem could be, but it sounds like you've tried everything else.

Raybender, have you tried to connect via USB without the docking station as Rcbjr recommended?

Re: Warning ! Device not found

    Yes -
I tried it with just the laptop. Also tried different cables. It must be a problem with my system. Just don't understand why it makes the usb "connected" sound and shows the charging icon on the blackberry.

    Thanks everyone
