    uncaughtexcetion:java.lang.illegalStateException

    Hi All,

We are under attack from this error: uncaughtexception:java.lang.illegalstateException

New to BB 7100i as well as the boards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This error message is plaguing all BB users in our company, of which there are 5. When it happens, it KO's the Blackberry Browser icon and eliminates the ability to use the web via Internet Browser. I have reinstalled 4.1 numerous times, as well as re-registered. Tech support was pretty useless. Does anyone know what's going on? I've downloaded one theme (from this site) as well as the plasmic theme reader, but I'm the only one to do that and we all are getting the same errors.

We've had these things just over a week and after fixing the issue earlier today, the error showed up again this afternoon.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

This occurs when the BlackBerry device is retrieving custom browser icon graphics from the Internet upon registration with the wireless network, and Content Protection is enabled.

There are two options to resolve this issue:
Disable Content Protection, then reset the BlackBerry device.
    1. Scroll to and select Settings (to select push the trackwheel in).
    2. Scroll to and select Options.
    3. Scroll to and select Security Options.
    4. Highlight and select General Settings.
    5. Highlight Content Protection.
    6. Click the trackwheel and select Change Option.
    7. Scroll to and select Disabled.
    8. Click the trackwheel and select Save.
    9. Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry device.
Delete service books, then reset the BlackBerry device.
    1. Delete the following service books from the BlackBerry device:
NOTE: This temporarily fixes the issue until the next registration.
      • BlackBerry HELP! [BrowserConfig]
      • Google Talk Download [BrowserConfig]
      • Yahoo! Client Download [BrowserConfig]
    2. Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry device.

    Re: uncaughtexcetion:java.lang.illegalStateException

Thank you very much for responding.

Unfortunately, my 7100i does not offer the 'change option' on content protection. When I click there, I'm offered to Change password, Wipe Hanheld, Verify Security Software, Master Radio reset, Save or Close.

I have dumped the entire service book(aside from the desktop items) and re-registered the device many times and it still doesn't fix the error.

Is there a way I can get this thing to offer me the chance to disable content protection?

    Any other fixes?

I'd love to get this thing running, because it seems like it could be a great tool.

Also, how do you perform a hard reset? I tried the link provided but it didn't work.

    Thanks again.

sorry, links won't work 'cause it's copied from our knowledgebase. hard reset would just be pulling the battery for a couple seconds.

check your s/w version in options > about. if you're not running the latest software from your provider (i'm assuming it's not att with a 7100i), then upgrade it and see if you get the option.

are you and the others running off BES? i'm not sure if there can be an IT policy to remove the content protection from the end user, but maybe someone else could answer that.

A hard reset is performed by pulling the battrey out, wait 15 - 30 secs, and putting it back in.

    Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, same error after hard reset. Without being able to use the browser, this is just a very large cell phone. If they can' get this fixed, they're getting it back.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
