Nextel 7100i compared to Sprint 7130

I currently have a Nextel 7100i, which I have had since March. Up until the last few days, I've had my heart set on getting a Pearl. Now I'm starting to have second thoughts. What I really want is streaming video, so I'm considering a Treo. But I'm also considering upgrading to a Sprint 7130. Although it doesn't get me streaming video, it gets me the chip set from the 8700 series. And I don't have to pony up a $200 early termination fee. Has anyone had both a 7100i and a 7130? How do they compare? Is is worth upgrading?

    Be careful!

The 7130g/c both have the same chipset, Intel based, as the 87xx series, but the 7130e does not. Only the GSM 7130, not the CDMA 7130, has the Intel chipset.

But wait for sn1p3r to come along, because he's a Telus dealer and has had both (I think).

In case you don't know, Telus is a Canadian carrier which operates both CDMA and iDEN networks, and has both the 7100i and 7130e models, similar to Sprint-Nextel.

Thanks for the info. I'll wait to hear from him. I'm torn because having been stylus-free this long, I don't really want to have to go back to using one with a Treo.

The 7130e and the 7100i are basically the same exact phone. The 7130e does not have an external antenna, is black in color, and has EVDO internet. It is not an upgrade unless you are wanting the EVDO speed. Why not go with the 8703e by Sprint? That is a serious upgrade.

Re: Nextel 7100i compared to Sprint 7130

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i have look to the 8703e and wouldn't change my 7130e for that cause once you used to the suretype you don't want to go back to the waffle size bbs but I tried the 7100i, I really like the size of the device but in my area the iden network is too spotty so I went with a 7130, no it doesn't have any Intel chipset but it is a bit faster anyway than the 7100, if you use DC a lot you should keep your 7100i but if you do lots of text messaging 7130 is better cause here une Canada the 7100i can't tell who sent you a msg.... You could also go with palm 700p if you want to try the streaming videos. ( I'm gonna get killed for saying that but I prefere bbs anyway but this device seems so cool sorry). Also evdo really worth it for the times I tried it ( living and working in an non evdo area ). The only I could ask you is do you need DC ? If not go for the 7130e or the 8703e if you need qwerty

    These were my 2 cents

Re: Nextel 7100i compared to Sprint 7130

Thanks for the input, guys. Sn1p3r's right, I just don't like the form factor of the 8700 series. I use DC so little these days that I have a Sprint (rather than Nextel) contract which doesn't even include DC minutes. But if the 7130e isn't significantly different from the 7100i, there's no reason for me to go that route. Heavy sigh. I may just keep what I've got until someone comes out with what I really want, that being a phone with the size and form factor of the Pearl, which is stylus-free, and which streams audio and video. Any designers out there listening?
