    Desktop Manager Problems

Hi, I am a newcomer to the site. I looked through several threads and thought the solutions that were proposed would help, but to no avail . . .

    Help, please.

When I start up desktop mgr. 4.1, a Windows Installer box pops up and in the "user source" there is the number "1". When I click on the browse button it is trying to find "BlackBerry 7100.msi." I have searched my harddrive, the installation CD, and Googled the filed, and I can't find anything about it.

I tried removing the program, made all the deletions to the registry that were recommended, made deletions to the c drive, as recommended in one of the posts. I loaded 4.1 and then 4.1 SP1. I had the virus scan disabled at the time of installation. BTW, the DMgr worked fine until about a month ago.

Thanks in advance for any suggested corrections/fixes.

    dealman, Welcome to PinStack.

I haven't seen this problem so really don't know what advice to give. I search of PinStack only gave two hits, neither of which seemed to address this problem. Sorry, but I really just wanted to welcome you and to bump this up on the new list for others to see it.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

Thank you for taking a quick look at my inquiry. It is bizzare. I don't know what else to do other than try to contact BB proper. Maybe some other person surfing through will have an idea.

    Thanks again.

Here's what worked for me. I did the clean uninstall per the link that was provided here by CP6169 above.

Then I went to this link, and downloaded Desktop Manager 4.2

Once I installed it on my PC everything worked just fine.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers....

Archer . . . Thanks. I'll give it a go . . . Was you system acting the same way and bringing up an install program box as I described?

Also, do you (or anybody else out there checking in) know of a help desk at RIM one can call without paying an arm and leg to get something resolved?

    Many thanks!!

Yes, mine was acting the same way.

I checked your profile and it says you are using a 7100g on Cingular. If that's correct, here is a link to their help page, use it from your PC.

Look on the right side, where there is a choice called "Tech Chat", click on the link "log into forums to chat now".

This is a fantastic service where they have BB specialists on hand to assist you. I have used it a few times and each time they were skilled, courteous and resolved the issue very quickly. You might read the hours they are open to be sure you long on during those times.

Let us know how to do.

    Re: Desktop Manager Problems

I also had the same issue with my 7100g and followed the uninstallation/install new DSM procedure and it worked.

One thought that ran through my mind (about 75% of the way through the process), the other day, I had downloaded and installed new "firmware" to my BB. When I looked in the Add/Remove programs, the 7100 4.1 OS was in that list. I uninstalled it, got the same error message and clicked Cancel, then it uninstalled. That's probably what was hanging on the DMS install, would anyone agree?
