the more I use my BB the more it seems I am finding things which are frustrating. Like tonite, I wanted to call this 0800 number and the only way I could remember it was using the mnemonic version ... 0800 4 SHELL .. but when I went to call .. what do you know.. due to the bloody QWERTY keyboard on the BB, the numbers and alpha do not correspond to what you would normally have on a phone... and I just couldnt dial the bloody number!! Damn this is just sooo frustrating... I mean I like the qwerty keyboard and all.. but damn why does BB have to go out and try to make its own conventions? The least they could have done was to somehow leave the number/alpha assignments on the keypad same as a normal phone.

Is there a way to address the problem I am having (apart from completely ditching the BB and getting another smart device)?

Oh man you're going to love this!

Use the QWERTY keypad to spell out the word. 0800 4 SHELL should look just like that on your phone screen. The BB will translate the letters to the numbers needed!

This is one of the best features of using a BB as a phone. I dial numbers like that when traveling all the time. 1-800-I FLY SWA or 1-800-HHONORS they all dial right through.

I believe you also have to hold down the ALT key when you're using a 'dial by name' type feature...but twheeler is right - just use the entire keyboard to spell out whatever you need to spell out.

thanks for your help guys. But I am still confused. When I have my BB on the main screen and start typing 08004 .. its all good.. it takes me to the phone screen and all seems well and dandy. But then when I type S [which is on a key that doesnt have any numbers on it, I just cant type it ] all hell breaks loose and I cant get any futher. Please can you tell me where I should be tying the phone number 08004SHELL ?? thanks in advance
