my dad was just given a 7100t from t-mobile and he has cingular

now i know i need to unlock the phone and then delete the t-mobile os and install the cingular os.
i have already had the person who had the phone before call t-mobile and they are going to release the pin and imi number.
Is this all i need to do??

    Re: changing os

You dont necessarily need to replace the T-Mo OS with Cingular. As long as you unlock the 7100t it will work on Cingular. Just make sure when call T-Mo they delete the PIN from their database. If not you will not be able to set up a personal email (BIS) account on Cingular. Other than that you should be fine.

I am not sure how you will get the unlock code. It will be easier to have the current owner calling T-Mo and requesting the unlock code. As long as he is a T-Mo customer for 90 days in good standing order T-Mo will give him the unlock code for free. However, they will not give it to you as you are not a T-Mo customer.

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Keeping the current OS will work, but don't forget that Cingular doesn't support IM (Yahoo!, Google Talk, BB, etc.).

Those apps may already be installed on the 7100t.

    Re: changing os

Lewis, Cingular as you say, does not support any IM, but the only IM App the actually block I. E. will not work on the BB, is Yahoo Messenger for Blackberry. BB messenger works just fine.

The 7100t and 7105t come with Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and AIM preloaded (OZ clients).

Its not the best but its not the worse...Make sure you get UNLIMITED MESSAGING if you decide to use it because it counts as SMS messages and you will get a nice little expensive surprise on your next months bill.

    Re: changing os

shafferds, I wouldn't worry about the OS, unless it's not up to date. Check to see what version is actually on the Device and if there is a major update, then I would go for the latest, ignoring who the provider is. I run a later version of OS on my 8700, not the latest, but one of the updates from another carrier, because Cingular hasn't even made the first update on it and there were some major hiccups with 4.1.0.194.

    Hope this helps

    Re: changing os

You could always take it to a local store/service center to assist you (your dad) in getting the device in working order.

I'm always of the opinion that if the OS is in good shape leave it alone.

    Cheers!
