    can't see attachments

    Hi,
I have just sent a mail test with a very small excel file attached, to my email setup for the BB.

I got the mail but I don't see the attachment.
The help function on the BB says to scroll to the name of the attachment and then click the trackwheel and Open attachment.

I can't even see the name of the attachment in the mail I got.

    Any idea?

    Thanks
    Nic

    Try this:
    Options
    Advanced Options
    Applications
Scroll down and see if you have a module labeled "BlackBerry Attachment Service"

Alson, I'm mobile so can't see ur profile quickly, are you on BIS or BES?

    Re: can't see attachments

    Hi,
    I don't have advanced options:
From main screen I have :
    Messages
    Browser
    Address Book
    Calendar
    Applications
    Profiles
    Settings
    Keyboard Lock,

So I went in Settings and then Options,
in here I have a long list but not "BlackBerry Attachment Service"

Also I don't know what BIS or BES is and how to check.

    I am very sorry.....

    Nic

    Re: can't see attachments

Its fine. BES means Enterprise server, which if your company gave you the device, it would probably be connected to.

If you bought the device yourself and have your own service, then you would be on BIS.

If I am not mistaken you should have a BlackBerry Attachment Service module on your device which allows you to open attachments.

I don't have a 71 series near me, so hopefully someone who does can jump in and confirm/deny.

If you have a copy of the operating system on your computer, you can:
    Open desktop manager
    Plug in your bb
    Go to add/remove applications
Click thru till you get to a list of things with boxes next to them that are checked or unchecked
    Find BlackBerry Attachment Service
    Check mark that box
Click next or whatever and click all the way through and it should install it, then reboot your device.
    Then try again to open.

When you open the email, click the trackwheel to bring up the menu, then scroll down and find "open attachment" and click your trackwheel again.

Ill be gone for about an hour but will check back in to see how you're doing.

    Re: can't see attachments

OK, Then I have a BIS because I bouth the device myself.
I have desktop manager installed but in the application loader, the only application I see is a theme that I have downloaded this morning, nothing else. And I don't have a copy of the operating system on my computer, I would't know how to put it there :-(

    Thanks

    Nic,

Check out the revelavant links on the BB FAQ & Guides page for where to get the latest OS for your carrier/device and how to update it. The specific ones you will want is Blackberry OS Software links (by carrier) and How to: OS 4.x Upgrade for your Blackberry.

Did you make sure the BB attachment service was checked when you installed the OS. Do you have the BB attachement service in Options/Advanced Options/Applications now?

You could just have a corrupt CMIME service book. YOu could try deleting your service book and then resending it from your BIS account online.

What version of office/excel did you use to create the attachment? Have you ever been able to open attachments on your blackberry before?

    Hi,
for the first part I have no idea what to do.
    I use Office 2003
I just got this phone, I did 6 or 7 tests sending mails to myself from my PC and I never got the attachmemt, just a small 18KB excel file.

In the message, right on top there is the word : [attachment]
but I can not do nothing with it.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~you have to try and go back to how you set up your email in the begining , deleate it and do it again. Try that cause it worked for me

If you scroll to the very bottom of the message, thats one place you'll normally see the attachments listed. If you scroll to the bottom of your message, do you see anything here?

Also, when you have the message open, when you click the trackwheel to get the menu, look for 'open attachment' in the menu. Do you see that?

    Re: can't see attachments

No, this is all I see:

    Received using :
    Message Status :
    To :
    Sent :
    From :
    Subject :
    ------------------------------------------------
    [1 Attachment]
    body of mail

    ------------------------------------------------
    application:winmail.dat (25k)

If I click on the wheel, no matter where the cursor is, I never get the option : open attachment.

    Thanks
    Nic
