8130 Vendor theme installation (DIY)

Whenever you try the vendor theme trick by entering your vendor code and uploading that onto your phone, it gives an error code 523. Here is an simple way to upload the vendor themes and not have an error.

1. Install the latest OS onto your PC (VZW get it here: http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/download.aspx)

2. Download JLGUI from this thread http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...p_manager.html (Direct link here: www.controlgenie.com/JLGUI.zip)

3. Unzip the file for easy access (JLGUI, javaloader, and supplied files)

4. Connect phone via USB

5. Run JLGUI.exe

6. Browse to C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in motion/Shared/Loader files then browse the OS

7. Open the /java folder

8. Select all the net_rim_theme files

9. Drag those files to the JLGUI and click install

10. After copying the files over, the phone should self reboot and themes will be installed

11. Enjoy your unlocked themes

Just from a technical standpoint how does that make the themes work? ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Re: 8130 Vendor theme installation (DIY)

i guess when you do it the other way it tells your computer to upload the themes. this way you are putting them there yourself.

for some reason the Verizon 8130 didn't like the theme 'hacking' and gave errors. this way goes around that.

Hmmm interesting. Has this alternate method ever been needed in the past? I used the Vendor Themes trick for the Verizon 8830 no hang ups. What would be the difference between that phone and the 8130? The upgraded OS maybe?~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I think this is a rare case with the 8130 OS. I could be wrong though. Javaloader has been around for a while, just JLGUI makes it easier with a UI, instead of command line prompts.

Re: 8130 Vendor theme installation (DIY)

I went one by one adding the different vendor themes and it only seems to throw the app error when trying to load the T-mo theme. Not sure but maybe it is having an issue with T-mo's five icon and the VZW five icon files.

Re: 8130 Vendor theme installation (DIY)

I installed them all in one shot and switch beween them constantly, works great here.

just curious did you do it my way via JLGUI or just use plain javaloader?

Re: 8130 Vendor theme installation (DIY)

I installed the T-mo ones via the JLGUI as you have posted. The T-mo won't load without errors through DM, it may be because it has issues with the VZW theme. The other themes seam to load fine via DM.

Not sure but when I just load the theme .cod files via JLGUI they work, when I use DM it tries to load three files for each theme and one of those files may be the cause. I just have not bothered to test my theory.

Re: 8130 Vendor theme installation (DIY)

did it copy the files over and the phone reset on it's own? if not pull out the battery and see if they are there.

i have the vzw 8130 and installed the telus OS onto my phone and this still works.

you can contact me if you have alot of trouble.
