8130 free memory

Just curious how much free memory your VZW Pearl has available. I show around 8000 available and have heard others mention as much as 20000. Tips on freeing up memory will be appreciated.

Re: 8130 free memory

Have you deleted the unused Language support apps? If you are down to 8000 bytes and not 8 meg, you are looking for trouble. You might try running the Setup Wizard and deleting the languages.

Re: 8130 free memory

yeah I'm around 20mb also. Run the setup wizard. Then download the OS from Verizon's website (very slow tonight). Once you install the OS delete all the COD files that are in foreign languages (example: _fr, _es, etc). Then you can also delete other things that you do not use such as the sample video file, or password keeper if you do not use it. Do not empty the trash can/recycle bin until after you know that the changes you made work on your BB. If you delete something needed you might have to reload your OS fresh (like deleting help). As always make sure to do a backup before hand.

Re: 8130 free memory

about 27.5 free now

after more tinkering, i got it down to 27.9mb free, i could go lower, but i left all the help fies, BB Messenger, BB maps, attachment service, memopad, password keeper, tasks, and the basic dimension theme. so all in all it is easy to get the memory 'back' and keep functionality.

Re: 8130 free memory

I have a massive memory leak. It's the root cause of my problem I'm pretty sure. I've called Verizon and they've both walked me through things that I've already tried and then suggested I take it to the local Verizon store for a wipe. I told them I was quite capable of doing that and they agreed that I should give it a shot. It's just not working! Check out the amount of memory I have on a daily basis!

I talked to them Friday and I'll be getting a new Pearl on Monday. I'll be starting another thread to describe all of the issues I've had and where it's led me.

Re: 8130 free memory

My 8130 usually has about 12-13 free, and only gets up to 15 after a soft or hard reset. Should I be thinking about taking it back to VZW, or is that as good as it's going to get?

I have done all the things listed in various forums to conserve memory.

Re: 8130 free memory

I got my new 8130 today and wow different! I mean in memory! Scroll up a couple posts and see what my old one had.. here's my new one

This is with ONLY my email set up, no apps.

This is with VZNav, 2 themes, my email set up, some saved text messages from my old 8130 and addresses.

I just got it and haven't messed with BBM yet, but I'm pretty sure my lack of memory on the old one was the issue. I'll keep you posted.

Re: 8130 free memory

Lack of memory is the reason why your Pearl had massive memory leak. No question. I suggest you delete all the preloaded music, video, and ringtones if you want (if you dont use them). That will get you some more free space.

I have a Tmobile Pearl (I know not the same) but I try to keep it at at least 20MBs free space. Just to be safe from any memory leaking.

BTW why does the 8130 only have a total memory of 50.5MBs? My 8100 has 64.4MB's total and I thought all BB's came with that much space.

There is a thread over at crackberry.com which tells you which files they are.
