SMS Packet Error
Here is my problem, I have an 8830 on Verizon, if I turn off my phone at night plug it into the AC charger, charge the battery, when I turn it back on in the am and try to send a text message, it does not go through, I get a big red X and its says packet error! Then I do a battery pull or a soft reset, and resend the txt message it works fine. If I leave my phone on a night while charging it works fine with no error! Anyone else experience this problem? I was previously running O.S. 18.104.22.168 and yesterday I upgraded to 22.214.171.124 and I still have the same problem. Verizon's solution is to replace the phone! Any help would be appreciated.
The error you describe indicates that the device is trying to send an SMS message using an incorrect format on the network. Give this a try and see if it helps. We will change the SMS status on the BlackBerry device.
Go toOptions > SMS.
Scroll down to Network To Send Over and display the menu. Select Change Option > What is yours currently set to? What options do you have? Suggest you change this selection as well as data coding to see of this corrects the issue.
Scroll up to Data Coding and display the menu. If the default setting was 7 bit, change it to 8 bit. If the default setting was 8 bit, change it to 7 bit.
Display the menu and select Save.
Let us know if this helps!
I have SMS in the options menu, but none of the other stuff appears, I'm working with a Verizon 8830. No option for Network to send over ? Thanks
I feared as much......those instructions were meant for a GSM device. Sorry. I will look around for any other solutions....
try makin all ur messages urget....this force's it thro the data lines....works for a friend of mine that has a 8830 with telus, mine has never done any of the sort.....
This may be a duh! question on my part, since you mention talking to Verizon tech already.
Are you allowing sufficient time for the phone to fully register with the network?, indicated by uppercase EVDO (as opposed to lower case evdo) on the screen. I've seen this take a few minutes sometimes from initial power-up and only voice calls will go through during that time. Interestingly enough if you had data turned off before you turn off the phone, so that 1x comes up when you turn on the phone, SMS messages go right trough (this with Sprint)
If that's the case, try enabling the Auto On feature to say, 5-10 minutes before you wake up so the phone is nice and ready when your alarm goes off.
I put it on Urgent and it worked without hitch this morning, don't understand but oh well!
Odd. I guess keep it on and just put it to silent when ur sleepin or get vzw to swap u. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~
I had the same issue the 2nd day I had my 8830. I called the service tech from my home phone, while on the phone the tech called my cell phone to create a connection with both lines. They reset something on their end and asked me to send an SMS text, which I did to my daughter and everthing worked fine and still is
